05X track times

Hello, took our 05 G35X to the track tonight to see what it would run - did about what I expected. Only mods are Gordgee's grounding wires, Z-tube, K&N drop in - so basically stock. No weight reduction, had a bunch of the wifes crap in the backseat also.

Best run stats:
MM used, VDC off
R/T .196
60ft' 2.219
330 6.255
1/8 9.540
mph 74.80
1000 12.357
1/4 14.707
mph 95.96

my runs in chronological order...short version (1/4 times only) VDC off for all runs
15.044@ 92.16 AUTO 5:15pm
14.999@ 92.63 AUTO 5:42pm
15.170@ 94.50 MM, hit redline on 2-3 shift 5:55pm
14.919@ 94.81 MM 6:08pm
15.070@ 94.41 MM 6:21pm
14.910@ 95.01 MM 6:33pm
14.707@ 95.90 MM 7:07pm
14.933@ 95.62 MM 7:39pm
14.707@ 95.96 MM 7:48pm

on my best runs, I stayed in 3rd and just it just bumped the rev limiter at an indicated 7100 or so - this gave me a higher trap speed. As you can see, staying in auto gives you a 3 MPH lower trap speed. Between the 6th and 7th runs, I let it cool down a little, and put a bag of ice someone left on the ground on the intake manifold(took the plastic engine cover off of course) I never really let the car cool substantially between any of the runs. I was pretty happy with the times my heavy stock car ran.

I've run in snow mode. No difference at all.

My best with K&N/Z-tube was 14.50 at about the same MPH.

The snow button cuts power. Why would you use that?

oh, i didnt know that it cuts power. I thought it just slows throttle response and charges the clutch for the front wheels...therefore quickening the reaction time if you slip at start.

It doesn't cut power; it simply re-calibrates the throttle input and locks the EM clutch in 50:50 mode until a certain MPH (15?)

WOT is still WOT, as evidenced by 4 back-to-back runs in Snow/No Snow mode. The difference between runs was less than 5 thousandths of a second.

+1 How do you launch?

Is it bad to hold the brake w/ the L foot while getting the RPM's up there since we have the AWD?

I've done that ^ once & it was pretty sweet, but don't want to screw up the ride.

Thanks!

Good runs. What track was this and what were the conditions like. How about your launch technique? I've found that holding the brake, then mashing the gas when the first ambers come on, and then releasing the brake once the last amber lights results in my best 60 foots (mid to high 2.1s). This techique quickly builds the rpms to around 2200-2300rpms without excessively stalling up the TC.

well, same technique as you I guess, just brake torque it to around 2300 rpms or so and when the last yellow lights up, floor the gas and let off the brake at the same time. Pretty much how you launch (or I should say how you should launch) an automatic car. I wish I had the RWD when I race though, the extra weight of the AWD is not helping at the stock power levels. I dont see how a stock AWD could do any better in the 60 foot than I did without some weight reduction, adding alot of power, or getting a higher stall torque convertor. The stock TQ does not stall that high, and there is not much torque for the weight of the car. Overall, not too bad though for the wife's daily driver. I still want to mod it though - trying to fight the urge.
