While I agree with your statement, I don’t think a luxury vehicle should sustain over $1K in damage in a 5mph collision. There’s not that much energy for the bumpers to dissipate. Those results disappoint me. I'm guessing there's no chance Infiniti will step up to the plate on this one.

I think they have a database on their site. Look up some of the other cars you have owned. I bet you will be surprised!. Most are not that good and when they are the car performs poorly in other crash test
I am happy with my Sedan and am pretty careful. Just a luck of the draw because some of theose designed to meet the tests will not meet the test if the post is smaller, is not in the location htey descibe for their tests etc. Not a true indication of real world activity. Just another way for insurers to charge more

I checked out my previous car, it was a ’96 Civic and it wasn’t too bad. On a good note, I did see that the G’s head restraints were rated good (which is the best rating), that helps considering the bumpers are rated poor!

I tend to listen to the satefy councils before I listen to people who cry when they have to pay if your bumper dents. As I've said in the other posts concerning this, I'd rather have a bumper that crumbles than a body that jars.

if you are stupid enough to do parking accidents like hitting a pole u deserve to pay the 1000 dollars. Treat your car right and the car will treat you right.
LOL, that sort of falls into the "How do I get out of paying a ticket for my tint??" category. You screwed up, and every once in a while, you need to pay the consequences... you can't always shunt blame elsewhere (as much as I wish I could).

I agree 100%...plus the fact, that with all the one piece bumper covers and HIDS, etc...if you even ding these cars in the wrong spot it's going to cost a lot.
My friends 99 Z71 truck, in a blizzard, bumped a guard rail doing a 3 point turn...$3500 later he needed a new head light assembly, hood, grill, lower bumper cover and bumper...with all the primer, paint and labor....ouch. It only cost his $500 deductable though.
so $1000 + doesn't sound that bad...and that's what we have insurance for.

I backed into a atrucks metal bumper last week, no damage to the truck, $2,200 damage to my sedan. Crushed the bumper and dented the rear deck and trunk.

Look at the source, the Insurance Institute ! This is an unvalidated, questionably reproducible test and they know it. The damage cost also depends on the cost of the parts and Infiniti is higher than average car.
Finally, this is an energy absorption mechanism for safety. Strong bumpers tend to transmit shock to occupants or other components. Thats' why crumple zones, fold points, etc. More extensive car damage and less human damage.Take your pick!
