Intake?

I am considering purchasing either the z-tube with k&n drop filter or the pop charger with intake should without the z-tube.

Which is better in your opinion? I know pop charger with z-tube, although these are currently my two options. The car is an 06 6mt sedan

Thanks

JMO, but I like the factory air box. I put the Z tube and K&N. I don't see how the PoP charger keeps hot under hood air out even with the heat deflector. The factory box does an excellent job of this.

I think you'll be better off to save your money and get the MREV kit instead. It seems it's the only affordable mod that gives measurable results for your car.

I don't think you'll feel or hear much difference with any after market intake for the 05 or 06 6mt. I have an 05AT and it will at least get some more growl by changing the intake, but not much else. The 6mt's don't seem to get any growl until they put on an MREV.

Mrev seems like a great option although my car is a lease and I only have 2,000 miles on the car. I intend on waiting to install any mods beyond very basic bolt ons that can be removed in under an hour

Understood, mine is also a lease. Another mod i felt was worth while is replacing the tweeters up by the windshield. I bought a pair of 1" MB Quarts for 100.00 and had a local shop install them. When i turn the car back in, i'll just leave the tweeters in it..but the sound improvement was worth it to me.

yeah, the non bose system has little high's and I have considered that. Is it a simple and cheap install with a very noticeable difference?

IMO - stick w/ the K&N drop-in. No heat soak from the engine bay w/ this setup.....and it sounds good too. If you want some more noise after doing this mod, remove the "power duct" piece that is clipped onto the front of the intake (though you could get some heat soak from doing so). Give it a shot..it takes 2 minutes to remove & put back on if needed.

Regarding the tweeters, I used to run +4 or +5 with the factory tweeters. After getting the MB Quarts installed I only need to run +2 or +3. The highs are more consistent and airy.

There are some DIY's on here if you want to do it yourself, you'll also need a crossover since the speaker wire runs from the head unit -> to the 6" door speaker -> then to the tweeter (the factory crossover was mounted to the back of the tweeter). The MB's came with their own crossover that we mounted inside the door between the 6" door speaker and the 1" tweeter.

I've heard that some have lost power with the Pop-Charger. I even did with my NISMO v2.

without a doubt, if you put a pop charger, or stillen, or cai, the sound will be louder than the stock box w/ k&n.

I just replaced my stocker with a stillen cai and I can hear the sound improvment throughout the rpms. Has a very nice pur down low now

I just installed the K&N drop. I'm going to pick up the z-tube soon.

After searching and reading all the CAI threads, I'm very weary of going that route. As far as your 6MT is concerned, I would def not go w/ CAI. Many have their engines die after 5k+ rpms, then neutral.

dont get the popcharger. The popcharger is open to the heat generated by the engine...imo worse than the stock box. If anything, get the Stillen Cold Air box. Somepeople report a small gain to the wheels, but you will be much happer with the nice sound that it makes! If you are ready for a true CAI, than go for the NISMO, therefore you will have some protection if water gets sucked up (water safety valve) I never heard of any issues as said before, except for some that came from improperly installed units.

I bought my sedan less than a month ago and the z-tube looks like a cheap and easy mod to start with. Will I get anything out of the z-tube on my '06 sedan? I'm really most interested in it for the sound.....

With all due respect, you're way off. I just put the z-tube + pop charger in my '05 6MT sedan and the **** growls like a monster... swear to god.
