Tint Question....novice
Wil,
Let me know when you guys start to use this new Madico film. I've talked to a couple local shops here in SoCal and still undecided as to which film to use.. (llumar, solar guard, etc.). Maybe when you guys are down here sometime in April, you can do a group tint for some G35 owners...

It will offer better heat reduction at a higher VLT (light transmission) percentage than even metallized limo tint. Another benefit to it is it will not disrupt radio, cell phone, and other wireless signals.
We've seen the specs on the new Madico IR film and it offers excellent heat reduction........beats out metallized 5% tint by some 15% and is much lighter in shade (between 50%-75% VLT). In addition, Madico's adhesives are the clearest in the industry and have extended that to their new film as well.
After our NYC / NJ tour from March 25-April 3, we will be returning to socal in mid April. If you're (Drv4fun) interested in getting together w/ some G members here for a gb, let me know and I'll work something out for you guys.

All I can say is, on my xB, for the first time, I had Madico Charcool installed, full limo, and honestly, I was so impressed by the quality of tint. This time around, I won't do full limo, as you couldn't see a damn thing in the xB, but two thumbs up on Madico.

Also, now that my rear tint job is alreadry "done", can it be fixed, either by removing the old tint and starting over, or just "filling in" the brake light? There is some slight debris under the film, in addition to the off-square, irregular shaped cut-out around the light. When I asked about re-doing the back glass, I was told the tint couldn't be removed without messing up the rear defogger. I'm not sure I'm buying all of this.
All I want is a professional job. I didn't call around for the cheapest place; I went to a tint shop that I thought was highly recommended. Am I being too ****? What do you think?
Thanks for everyones input.
To clean that area behind the brake light, you would need to find something very thin and wrap it w/ a microfiber towel and just scrub away. Make sure to use a dry micro.......this should clean up whatever you have back there.
I am a window films trainer for Madico Window Films Asia. The information that we provide for these paying students is really exclusive for those enrolled in the courses, which is why I do not release installations information.....hope you understand.
As for your brake light area, it can't be "filled" in. If you decide to go and have them remove it and redo it, then they would definitely need to remove the rear deck bc they need full access to the glass in order to remove 100% of leftover adhesives. If there's even one speck of glue left behind, it will be very noticeable once the new film goes over it.........removing film and retinting w/ a new piece takes even more attention to detail than the first install. They would need to remove all adhesives along the dot matrix and defroster lines.......this would take about an hr including the rear deck removal.
The film can be removed w/o damaging the defroster lines. Unfortunately, companies usually say this to try and get away w/ not having to redo any install - it's a scare tactic. Films are not permanent and if any company tries to push this point, then they are trying to pull your leg.
BigBird, where are you located? I could, perhaps, check to see if we have any good contacts out in your area that could help you redo the rear.

Thanks for your reply. I'm in northwest Arkansas.
So is there anyone out there who is not bound by "trade secrets", who will share their thoughts on how to tint the light area?
P.S. You know, I'm screwed. These guys wouldn't do it right the first time; they wouldn't fix it when I went back to ask them about it afterwards; and I seriously doubt anyone of us thinks they are going to go back and fix it right now either!
I guess I'm just hoping to show them that it could have been done right the first time and that they still could take care of it know. If they knew this before, then they are just being lazy and won't do anything about it now either. If, however, they sincerely did not know, then I'm hoping that they will come around and take enough pride in their work to go back and re-do it properly.

What kind of film was used for the installation? Can you take some pics and post it here..........like to see how much cut out was done..........it's possible to get this redone w/o removing the rear deck depending on how large this cutout is.........can you take some multi-angle pics? Hopefully, I could help you with this.
its not too far (less than an hour drive). if you highly recommend them then it'd be worth the drive. what's the name/address of the shop? and how strict are jersey cops about tinting front windows (nothing ridiculous... maybe like 50%)?
Anyone know of a shop in the Greenville, SC (or Charlotte, NC) area that can do a good tint job as it is seeming difficult to find anyone that does not find it necessary to cut out around the third brake.
Thanks for any input...

I have a Black sedan and I did Llumar (charcoal) 20 all around. Love it and I need it in the heat here in south Florida. Cost $130.
In my previous car, I had Llumar 30 front and 20 back and rear (and so is my wife's current SUV). Was good enough. The new 20 all around is even better.
