Re: What RPM do you shift at

last night, rather than trying to shift like a race car driver, which i realized i was doing, i discovered my gear ratios and where in the rpm drop it would be best to re-engage my clutch. no more jerks or surges.
a question though. when racing and wanting the fastest acceleration, there will no doubt be some very fast shifting. will there be an unavoidable surge forward in every shift? or is it still possible to very very quickly shift and have no jerkiness. thanks again

Finding the words to describe it is a challenge because it's all a mass of different sensations from head to toe as you accelerate to the car's limit on the track. Jerky is not a word I'd use to describe it, though, when it's good shifting. The shifting feels more like riding a wave from gear to gear as you accelerate fast, so it is smooth on acceleration. Downshifting poses more of a risk of jerking it if everything is not timed right (braking the right amount and then downshifting before entering a turn and then accelerating) and if you have trouble finding the gear. Double clutching and heel and toe maneuvers in the right situation smooth out the shifting, too.

heel/toe shifting is freaking hard in the G. the gas pedal is so damn low compared to the brake. maybe if i add a block to even it out.
