Should I keep the back window light?
Should I keep the back window light?
I just got a brand new spoiler, with LED light on it. While installing the spoiler, should I deactivate the back window light? Or I can keep both? sb told me it would be ugly to have four stop lights on the rear. Anybody has the experience? Thanks a lot for suggestions

Re: Should I keep the back window light?
I would definately pull the bulb on the rear light. Three brake lights are enough!!!!!!

Keep it, you can never be safe enough! - in CA we have to keep it no matter what.

Re: Should I keep the back window light?
Yes...California says a supplemental brake light "may" be installed in vehicle mfg after 1979. Section 24603(g)
http://www.dmv.ca.gov/pubs/vctop/d12/vc24603.htm
This is not what gets you if you disable it....what gets you is Section 24603(h) where it says you must be in compliance with the Federal Safety law 49 C.F.R. 571.108. In a nutshell, it says that if you have one, it must be in good operating order. It is also a justifiable cause for CA peace officer to pull you over.
Case in point: Justin K. vs. State of CA, Orange County Sup Ct
The spoiler light is could be deemed body/aesthetics. However, should your spoiler obscure the third brake light, then a light in the spoiler is mandatory.
The back light in the window is the standard "designated" de facto third light from Infiniti by design. Should you get rear ended, and it is determined that you disengaged that light, well....you know how the Kalifornia courts are
hope this rambling kinda clears the air....

This is one advantage to getting the factory installed aero package, I guess: no deck light.

I had my spoler installed at the dealership. I kept the back window light. Since it is there, might as well use it. I also figure if I am looking at the brake lights on the rear of my car, I have bigger problems.
Re: Should I keep the back window light?
I have the full body factory aero kit and the deck light is still there. maybe its a CA thing?

Re: Should I keep the back window light?
Get rid of the light on the deck, keep the one on the spoiler. No cop in his right mind will cite you for that violation. I have a spoiler, the brake lamp is on the spoiler, not the in the window. There is no way a police officer (unless he owns the G), is going to know what is, and is what is not OEM lighting. Then there is spirit of the law, and letter of the law.
In 15 years of law enforcement I have never seen this law enforced. As long as you have 3 lights in the rear, that is all that really matters.
And get rid of the light in the window.
Edited by socalg35 on 09/12/03 08:55 PM.

Re: Should I keep the back window light?
I got the spoiler installed in a dealer authorized bodyshop. They kept the back window one. Please take a look at the pic on my profile.
Thanks a lot for all the advice....
