G35 Sedan Water Damage HELP!!!!!!

Hi,

I just dropped off my G35 at the dealership, I live in Oklahoma and the car was lefts outside after the massive rain storm. The front floor and rear floor were wet as hell. Now my wife has noticed in the past after rain that the carpet has been a little wet. But nothing like two days ago. The only thing that I have installed is the grounding kit and I have one wire going thru the battery box thru the existing hole back down to the other points that are gorunded inside the car. I do not want the dealership to screw me, and I really do not think that it could be coming from that point. Has anyone had any issues with water getting in their G35, mine is a 2003 model. Please, any advice would be great.

What side of the car was wet? If it was the right side, you might want to check the grommet behind the battery. You might need to silicone the hole where you ran new wire. I have had issues with my car during rainstorms. There is a small leak on the drivers side, right where the A-pillar meets the roof line. I have had the dealer check it 3 times, and they replaced the ENTIRE sunroof. Needless to say, I STILL have the problem during cold, heavy rainstorms. It really pisses me off, but I can't figure out the problem. All of the drainage tubes are fine w/no clogs, etc.

It is on the passanger side. I will see what the dealer has to say. Maybe others have had this problem, maybe not.

If I recall, you only make a hole in the rubber grommet BEFORE the battery, then the cables are tucked through the area behind the battery and down the glove compartment. I don't see how that can cause any rain to come through the rubber grommet hole. That piece is like a feet away from the edge of the hood.

To get into the passengers cabin, there is a large grommet that requires puncturing to run the wire. It is located directly below the windshield, right where the water drains. If it wasn't sealed, then the water can get in there.

I've heard of this before...

Sometimes it's from the sunroof drain line.
It runs down the A pillar & down the kick panel.

I don't think it could be coming from the firewall. You must have a weatherstripping leak, that WOULD be covered by the warranty.

Onetime I put a GPS antenna on my car for a trip. It had a VERY small wire (1/8" or less) that i just closed in the door from the roof where it was stuck. It rained that night and I got a lot of water inside.

Did you recently get an alarm or car starter installed? I had an issue when the installer put my alarm in, they didn't properly seal/close the rubber grommett that goes thru the firewall on the drivers side....took my car to a car wash & water poured in! I was like WTF!!!! It was a quick fix.

I just checked my car. I totally forget about the grommet after the battery that you had to pook a hole through to allow the grounding gear wire to go through. I checked it and it's very tight against the grommet rubber. I didn't put any sealant around it when I had the grounding gear installed 6 months ago. The car's been through pouring rain and I've washed the car many times (not through a car wash though) and the passenger side is always dry.

Should I worry about it and put in some sealant anyway? I was lazy so I just put those flaps back in after I checked it.

Well, in that case, don't worry about it. If the wire is tight against the grommet, I would suspect that it is something else. It might be a clogged sunroof drain. Check it out.
