G35 Headlamp Cap Recall
I picked up my car from the dealer last night from having it serviced and discovered that there was a recall performed, ITB02-XX-R202 G35 Headlamp Cap. I asked one of the service managers what this was all about and he told me that Infiniti was having them install caps over the access points for the headlamp adjustment screws so that the owners of the cars couldn't adjust the headlamp to prevent us owners from blinding the general public because we are incompetent to correctly aim our own headlamps.
Sounds like a liability issue that Infiniti is attempting to prevent, i.e. we adjust the headlamps, we blind people, they crash into us or others, causing injuries, death etc., and Infiniti gets sued because they know that consumers adjusting the position of the headlamp beam could cause such injuries or death.
Just thought I would let everyone know what is coming the next time you get your G serviced by your dealer.

Re: G35 Headlamp Cap Recall
will these prevent us from installing a different headlight system?

Re: G35 Headlamp Cap Recall
Kind of stupid to do this, if they can be removed by the owners anyway.
How many other manufacturers do you think has done something like this? My guess is NONE.
Merlin.

Re: G35 Headlamp Cap Recall
From what information I have, the cap installation would apply to all G35 models that do not have caps over the adjustment screws, which are located right next to where the bulbs are located. So if there are no plastic caps over the top of the adjustment screws in your G, then it applies to your car, 2003, 2003.5, sedan or coupe.
In looking at the diagram from the service manual, the installation of these caps does not affect your ability to install a new headlamp system or remove the bulbs, only your ability to aim the bulbs.

In my opinion.. this would be a stupid recall.. If i wanted to blind people.. I would just drive around with my high-beams..
I also heard that the G35 lights are pointed LOWER than they could be...

I believe it has more to do with a memo that Infiniti received from the NHTSA than from Infiniti's confidence in their drivers. I think the 2003.5's have the cover installed in production.

Recall was done last week on my '03.5. Wish it would cure the bobbing instead!

I am in Toronto, and on my last oil service on Dec. 24th, they did this recall and told me after it's all done. So yes, it applies in Canada as well. I have a 2003 Model.

Talked to the service guy. He said that they'll do it the next time your car is in. Nissan did this also with the Altima or something. He says you can pop it off with a screwdriver.
