Fuel Mileage - reality check, with link...
Saw this linked from msn.com and it can go a long way towards explaining what the realities of manufacturer's posted fuel economy ratings really are.

For those that were angry that their G doesn't get the specified number of mpg, it's not relegated to Infiniti.

I really shouldn't complain about fuel economy, mine is within the ratings (26mpg on the highway, 21-22mpg mixed). I will complain that I can't get above the hwy mpg at times, which I was able to do with my Maxima (5speed, 31mpg, rated at 27mpg by EPA) BMW 328Ci (33mpg, rated at 28mpg by EPA) and BMW 325Ci (34mpg, rated at 29mpg by EPA).
i've tested mpg ratings myself to see how accurate they are but unfortunately you want to step on the gas more with the G when you drive...
i tested these #'s with cruise control on and having the computer read with the VIS - vehicle information system:
2006 G35x
60mph 25.6 mpg
65mph 24.9 mpg
70mph 24.2 mpg
75mph 23.7 mpg
all around driving when i picked up my customer's car was around 19.3 in stop and go traffic and some highway.
it's not as bad as toyota that they exaggerate the mpg's.... the wife's '06 solara 4-cylinder is rated at 23 city/32 highway and she gets average of 18.9mpg all around

is this eveyone's first car? We've known for years the EPA estimates mean nothing on the actual road. I'm getting about 19 in mixed driving, leaning more towards city driving, which is in line with what Consumer Reports indicates in their testing:
Fuel economy
CU's overall mileage, mpg 20
CU's city/highway, mpg 14/29
CU's 150-mile trip, mpg 26
Annual fuel: gal./cost 740/$1775
Cruising range, mi. 480
If you wanted a car with good gas mileage you should have bought a Prius.

I hope you are not getting a new car to save on gas money. You will never make up for the money you lose when selling the car.

Not only will you lose money when changing cars, the difference in fuel economy better be fantastic. At the current gas price and my 21 avg mpg, I will spend $3,810 annually (25K miles, $3.20/gallon). With 30mpg, the cost is reduced by $1,143. Less than $100 monthly. And I drive more than most. Gas prices will need to exceed $6/gallon for me to switch cars before the 4 year mark.
I thought of the Prius. I read that many were not getting the mileage they anticipated. I would love a pure electric vehicle for commuting. As long as the range was 50 miles, I'd be golden. I could charge it during work hours and charge it when I got home during the night.

Thanks for posting this. I've been wanting to see that exact thing for some time. I just completed a road trip for work. I kept it under 80 mph the whole way. (I wanted to maximize the mileage expense) While it was painful to keep it slow, I averaged 26 mpg. Nice to know we can get decent mpg if we need to.
