His attorney... said "[he] had a new car for the first time in his life, and a great stretch of road at 4 a.m., with no one on it..."
His girlfriend, who had been a passenger, drove the silver 2006 Infiniti G35 back to the police station...
Prosecutors said in court that they could not recall anyone going faster than 126 mph on the parkway, and U.S. Magistrate Judge Barry R. Poretz told Hoffman: "In 15 years on the bench, having adjudicated literally thousands and thousands of speeding cases, this is the highest that I've ever had..."

"It appeared he was trying to lose the officer real quick," Fear said. "The officer just kind of smiled, knew he couldn't go anywhere and pulled up and got him."
This Popo is funny.
I think almost any of the 1000cc and up road bikes are just starting to get comfortable around 110 -120 so 126 is routinely exceeded, not always in the best places or time. You'd think at 4AM you might have a reasonable chance of getting away with it unless that particular stretch of road is where everyone conducts their 'testing'.

The GW Parkway is a fun "driver's road" because it has lots of curves and elevation shifts, but as such, it's also nothing close to an open interstate. It can be narrow in places, and your line of sight is often very restricted with lots of overhanging trees. Also, it's pitch black at night with no streetlights except where it goes through Arlington. And then, it's Federal property, and there never seems to be a shortage of Park Service cops!!!
Man if they are making that big of a deal out of 126MPH. I would of made international headlines on more than one occasion.
One thing I would like to know is where did he meet that chick. Most of the women I date refuse to let me drive after two dates...LOL

126 mph on the GW parkway is a big deal. I am surprised he didn't kill himself for all the reasons Noremac pointed out above. The speed limit is 25-35 on most parts of that road, not 70, and for good reason.

You don't need 400 hp to go high triples. The article says that car adds claiming high hp figures contribute to speeding. Umm--people will speed whether its 198hp, 298hp or 600hp
May not be right, but it will happen. I just hope innocent people are never killed.
