Pulling a trailer?
#2
There was a thread or two about this and one or two on putting on a hitch. Iwas concerned with one of the hitch threads when someone mentioned since it looked like it attached to a particular piece (??trunk floor??) that if the hitch were hit it would deform the trunk floor and make the total damage a lot worse. This is assuming I remember correctly!
I was thinking about putting on the hitch to carry bicycles simply and safely (it works great on our Subaru), but I have not done it.

I'll probably go for a hitch and utility trailer as soon as I ditch my '96 S-1o Blazer.
As far as a trailer goes I'll look for the lightest possible...All I really need it for is that occasional trip to the Home Depot and need to Carry a 4x8 sheet of plywood.
I think That I read some where that the lights on your trailer had to have there own power source? I guess the wiring harness on the G is too light to carry the extra load...I assume that the trailer will need it's own rechargeable 12 volt battery? Perhaps you could get around this by using LED lights on the trailer?

I bought a hitch from etrailer.com. I use a small 4x6 "landscaping trailer" to haul my track junk. I lost about 2 mpg with the trailer, but my speeds are over 70mph. The G has enough torque and the wheelbase is sufficient to tow with. I wouldn't tow over 1000 pounds (100 tongue weight). The hitch isn't connected as well as a F350.

I pulled a 1100lb Jetski and Trailer with my 04 G35 6mt. Not a problem doing it. Just make sure you get the separate wiring controller from UHAUL that does not pull power from the brake/lighting system. It needs to pull straight from the battery. It will cause ECU problems if you try it the other way. Mine had issues at first.

I pull a small trailer with a couple of sportbikes on it. I have done a bunch of miles with it so far, but it really makes the back of the car sag. Here is a pic with just one bike on the trailer. Power and braking are fine, I only worry about the load on the unibody. My car is not lowered.
this is the D'lan hitch.

My trailer, kind of
My shop is working on the trailer, but here is the drawing. I took a trailer i got form HD for about $400 and am modifying it to carry tires, a 5 foot (130 cubic inch) nitrogen bottle, my ez-up 10X15 canopy and my resin containers (3x3x2). I'll get pics of the finished product as quickly as possible. Everything will be powdercoated for durability.

Autocad is used by the engineering dpt. Yes, the bottle is under the rack and secured to it. The rack is attached to the trailer after I get everything I need on it and placed to balance the trailer. The tent will lie on the opposite side of the bottom and the tool chest will be upfront (opening towards the tongue. I'm using a box from Lowes - $49.99. A steal and low weight. The only thing I'm looking for is a good tongue wheel and then a rear leg to lower when parked so the trailer will not move/tilt.
