I am currently using a PDA with TomTom Nav 5.21, which I think is the same software as TomTom 300. IMO TT is better than the Garmin C330. The Garmin maps lack detail like next street name in routing. The UI is very easy to use, but so is TomTom. I know some people complain about the accuracy of TT Teleatlas maps, but at least in CA TT maps have been great. In TT you can also change maps colors, voices (Homer Simpson, **** star, Darth Vader, etc. Gimmicky, but cool from time to time).
I have friend who works at Alpine's GPS division in torrence. He told me that Alpine makes the Navigation system in Honda/Acura and Chryslers. The voice command technology is licensed from IBM. Alpine just release a new single Din flip-out 7 inch type NAv system. Perhaps the interface is just as good as Acura's? Alpine also release a portable nav unit, but that is just a Taiwanese ODM.

right now current price for the c340 is a $100 more than c330...
i been having a lot of problems with the tom tom 910 and 510 at work... somethings wrong with the software currently...
but the ttm700 and ttm300 is awesome..
if you were to go with garmin... get the c340 its worth that extra 100 dollars...

Lots of different opinions here, but I'll throw in my 2 cents...
I have the TomTom 700, and have been very pleased. I have not used ht Garmin model, but I don't have anyhting bad to say about the TomTom. I also have a Garmin eTrex, and usb with my laptop running Delorme and MS software. I bought the TomTom with high expectations (and kinda thought I would have to return it from being let down).
Good luck with the purchase.
