^+1 on price. I didn't even look closely at the numbers until you mentioned it - that's a ridiculous price difference!

exactly, i wouldnt say they are bmw biased, they just really valued the feel of handling which infiniti isnt yet matching out the box...

And that price gap will only widen when the 335i replaces the 330i by the time that the 2007 G35 comes out.

Thanks OP. That was a great read.

More or less, this is what i found when i drove the 330i against the 06 G. Looks like nothing really changed.
I wonder if the added ponies in the G exacerbates the handling issues and negate any refinements done by the engineers on the chassis?

I love my G, but theres a bump on a hard right turnoff near me that always makes the car shimmy to the LEFT. Whenever i go over that bump i know the bimmer would handle that section SOO much nicer.
The most fun i have with my car is on the straight launches onto the highway where it throws you back into the seat, i know theres much less of that on the 330. Oh well.

I think the bimmer should get the edge for the amazing chassis, but i dont think its a TKO, more of a split decision. Given the price difference, they should have compared to the 325.

I really don't get what's so special about the 330i's interior. I would take the 2007 G35's interior any day of the week over the 330i's interior.

Especially without Nav, the 330i's interior really looks downscale. The standard G35 still has the screen, so it still looks good.

I can understand that the 330i has better driving dynamics, but in no way does the 330i's interior look better.

Although I read all car magazine reviews carefully, they are just for reference only, whether the verdit is for or against the car of my choice. We, the real world car buyers, make our decision based on many other important factors than just how the car "feel".

For me at least, the 330i's slight chassis advantage (especially when the car is pushed really hard) is NOT big enough for me to overlook G35's other clear advantages; such as lower price (anywhere between $5k to $10k), larger interior room, faster acceleration, better brake, more standard features, better ride, longer warranty, better reliability (based on my own experience) and etc.

I'll have to make my final decision after test driving both cars carefully, but I'm leaning more toward G35 as my next car.

I agree that 330i interior is so plain looking 70's style compared to new G35. 330i interior is like designed by 4 peoples without talking to each other. My 2002 330i's interor still look better than current 3 series.

Nice Canuk ... thanks for the hookup! This was a good read ... far and away the most information yet on the 07. I was hoping to hear more about the "80 percent all new parts" engine in terms of how smooth or refined it might be compared to the existing engine. The performance is definitely still there, but with even shorter gear ratios, does that mean the car will rev higher and be even louder on the freeways now? That wouldn't be good, as more relaxed cruising on the highway (+ better mileage) is something I'd dearly love to see out of this car.

So for the price of a 325, you get a car that's just about equal to the 330, and will no doubt get trounced by the 335 when available. Interesting stuff for sure

I don't read Motor Trend too much so I can't say how they are biased. But for all Car & Driver comparison tests, their final vote is PURELY based on their "Got-A-Have-It" factor.

It doesn't matter whether Car A won all performance categories over Car B. The Car B usually wins by few point based on the hugely biased point given to the "Got-A-Have-It" score.

A good example would be this month's test on Corvette Z08, Ferrari F430 and Porsche 911 Turbo. Even though Z08 won on almost ALL performance categories at fraction of price of both F430 and 911, Z08 lost solely due to its low score on the "Got-A-Have-It" factor. I'm not a fan or Z08, but this shows how stupid their test score system is.

Why even bother clocking all the performance number?

So it's so childish for them to decide which car is better than others and even more childish to put so much weight on their pathetic scores.

Man, the G35 absolutely obliterated the 330i in the 0-100 department. 13.9s v. 16.8s.

Its closer to the 335 in terms of acceleration than a 330. 14.0 vs. 14.7 is a HUGE difference in real world acceleration. About a couple buslengths
