2007 G35X - Thoughts

What is your thought on purchasing a g35x? Does anyone know if the AWD has made improvements? How much heavier is the car going to be?

The 07x uses the same ATTESA as the previous gen. The 07 G35x weighs 3703lbs where as the 06 G35x weighs 3668 lbs.

GrowlingG35..If you get bad weather in the winter, and can use thw AWD then it can't be beat. We love our 05X and our next ride will be another X.

I have an ’05 X and I'll admit that it's very good in the snow and I’ve had no issues w/the associated hardware - but unless your in the snow often, then I'm not sure that it's worth the weight/MPG penalty [about 300+ Lbs over the RWD] given the days of $3.20/Gal. If your not driving in the snow all that much but at exposed to it as in my case, I'd recommend forgoing the X and instead get the RWD and purchase a great set of performance snow tires. I was amazed on how a performance RWD can behave in the snow w/good snow tires.

Yes there are additional benefits: 25/75 split in high-speed turns and the same upon initial lunch, but again there is the weight penalty, and the X does push more than a non-X.

At least there is a choice.

THanks for the reply RLampke. I love my rwd g35. It snows a ton here but most of the time its plain cold during fall and winter. I only experience the winter 1 time and it was freaking cold and I was told that it was a mild winter. I had a hard time accelerating in my car which was fine with me. I did notice that there were a good number of audi and they did extremely well in the snow. Anyhow my only concern is I like to feel the response and quick acceleration on the g. That is probably the main reason I got the car and the look of course heh. I will most likely test out the new 07 x model or perhaps get a 06 x if the price is ridiculously good. Talk to you later!

Just to clarify here, the G35x weighs a little less than 200lbs more than an Automatic RWD G35 sedan and about 135lbs more than a 6-speed.

During normal operation, the car is 100% RWD- From a rest, the car has a 25/75 split. Then at about 19mph reverts to RWD unless slip is detected.
The G35x utilizes the FX front end. You'll find that steering effort is slightly higher than in RWD Gs and that there is not as much feel. Fuel mileage is similar. The G35x uses a shorter gear ratio to help optimize acceleration. Thus, freeway engine speeds are unfortunatly a bit higher.

If you live in the snow, the car will perform very well. However, you don't get the 6-speed option. If you don't care about the 6-speed, live in the snow, I think it's really worth considering. I on the other hand want to trade my car for a new 6-speed when available.

Thats right Lip! Thanks for pointing out that 6 speed is not an option. Thats fine with me though. It still does have the tiptronic right? If it doesnt have tiptronic then most likely its snow tires for me and a year later to probably get the 07 sports version. Which would mean I will need to white knuckle while driving in snow. I just love my current G now, but I hate when I see 05 models with the nicer looking rear lights. I usually remind myself that the spoiler is still the look heh. How is the acceleration in highway? Do you feel solid response?
