Will the 2007 G35 6 speed MT have a Helical or Torsen Limited Slip Differential ?
SubscribeHey Folks, This has been pissing me off. Since 2004, the Acura TL 6 speed MT & the Mazda RX-8 6 speed MT, the New 2005+ Mustang V8, Dodge Charger Hemi RT, Mazdaspeed3, 2007 Honda Civic Si, the Chevy Cobalt SS, heck even the 2007 Nissan Maxima 6 speed MT, all come standard with a Torsen or Helical Limited Slip Differential.
Then why is Infiniti still using a Viscous Coupling Limited Slip Differential. VLSD kicks in after slip has occured, preventing Traction Control taking over sooner....but still VLSD & Brake LSD (i.e. traction control) are both reactive technologies......On the other hand Helical LSD or Torsen LSD (even a computer controled Clutch based LSD like the one from the Honda Prelude - don't like Clutch LSD ad they need maintenance & have clutch plates hellooooo) are pre-emptive technologies, so these kick in before slip has occured.....Infiniti should get their act together & put in a Quaife HLSD in there.....I mean it'll probably help shave 0.2 or 0.3 seconds off the 0-60 time & have a huge benefit in coming out of a corner especially in wet conditions.
Anybody know someone high up at Nissan/Infiniti, need you to convey our furstration to them.

It would be nice, but I doubt it'll happen.
I ended up installing my own Quaife..... worth every penny
but it would be even better from the factory

But if you're refering to the 3er and the 335i in particular.......
there's lots of complaining about lack of a LSD on the BMW forums too.

I totally agree with you about the superiority of a helical LSD such as Torsen or Quaife. I'm just glad that at least a VC LSD is even available from the factory. I can just live with that until I upgrade to a helical unit. Also note that a Quaife for the G/Z is $1500, where a custom LSD for an E46 3 series is $3000! (there's no direct plug-in solution)
