It was a good observation and worthy of discussion - and a good point [including the MPG comment]. Some people like manumatics and there's nothing wrong w/that. Even Ferrari uses highly advanced manumatics and they are very successful at it [Granted your talking mega $$$$], even BMW sounds like it has a real nice manumatic for the 335i. Both have no trouble keeping up w/the manual and can even better a professional driver's movement of a manual transmission.

There is but one would have to drive it themselves to see if it's really changes or not - and yes the current auto is a slushbox.

I bought an 06 G35X as only my second automatic after many years of manuals. I still do not like how it shifts for an automatic. I certainly hope the 07 is better in this regard. It takes forever to decide to shift once it starts...

If not, I'll need to go back to manual. Is there a release date on an 07 G35X manual?

The Renault concept at the Paris auto show (forgot the name) has a 7speed automatic transmission. My guess:

2009 G37 (refresh) with a 6speed auto. 2008 M37/55 with a 7speed auto

No, but I know someone who does. They do about 50/50 city/highway driving, with what I would call a light-moderate foot, and get around 19mpg. Most cars do not achieve their EPA ratings, especially in city, but that's way off.

I wish Nissan would put direct injection in the VQ; more power and efficiency.

I was holding out hope that BMW was going to bring out a DSG type tranny.
But this new auto is damn close.

I'm going back to 6mt this time, but would have no problem going to the new auto either.
I know the Infiniti auto is slightly improved since my '04, but I would not be happy with the same unit.
I think this an area that they are falling behind in.
Hopefully they have something in the works.

The 5AT in the new 2007 Infiniti G35 sounds good to me.

Since you drove the auto, do your comments about quick shifting apply to both the manumatic shifting and straight automatic shifting?

I will definitely be giving the auto a test drive if the shifting is faster in both modes.

I do everyday. It's not as if shifting and clutch in and out aren't things you just do without thinking like everything else. In an automatic you still have two pedals that constantly need interaction, you still have to steer. You're looking in your mirrors and using turn signals (optional in Alabama of course) and whatnot. In other words, you still do a lot of things to drive.
In an MT you just have two more things you're doing.

Now, I think if you want to buy a AT that's you right. I just don't by the traffic arguement as a reason not to get one. If you're the type of guy that would only drive an MT you're going to get it even if you live in a high traffic area (and trust me, Tallahassee traffic sucks, I've lived in NY for most my life and while there are more people and cars there, the infrastructure was also superior in terms of flow and layout). And if you don't want to drive a MT or can't, you won't get one.

Yes, shifting is lightning fast & solid in both modes.
I have *never* experienced an AT even close to the way this one performs.
