Extended Warranty / Rust Proofing
Extended Warranty / Rust Proofing
Who will be purchasing the Extended Warranty and Rust Proofing plans? With my 2003 G I did not purchase either. This time I am looking at both. Any thoughts?

I don't plan on getting either of these, but I do plan on getting the 3M scotchgard clear bra.
If anyone knows of a good place in the NYC/LI area to get it done professionally, please let me know.

I don't plan on getting the rust proofing warranty either Mike, but mind you I am leasing this time around. If I was purchasing again, I probably still wouldn't get it. History tell me I don't keep vehicles long enough to warrant an extended plan.

I never buy an extended warranty on any product. They are pushed so hard at the car dealers, Best Buy, etc. for one reason: they make money. Therefore, on average you can assume you will lose money on them. It's like a deductible on your auto insurance premium - it's always best to self-insure as much as you can afford either through high deductibles or not purchasing extended warranties.

Are you planning to keep this one longer than the last one?

I plan on keeping it longer but also will go over the 100000km before the 4 years. I guess it also depends on what the 2011 G is like.

Rust proofing is a total waste of money. First new cars don't rust like the old days and look at the warranty you get anyway with a new car today for rust. Plus I've never seen a rust proof job done right and if you every had rust and it exceeded the cost of the rust proofing job they can just opt to return your money.
Extended warranties are also a waste of money in most cases. Take the money you would have paid and put it aside collecting 5% somewhere to use for any future repairs after your warranty has expires. The most extended warranties do is buy you peace of mind.
