From what I understand for those of us with Intelligent Key who want to add a remote starter there are two options.
A) install aftermarket starter and configure so the "starting" feature can be activated by the Infiniti Intelligent Key (very short range)
B) install aftermarket starter and carry around the Infiniti Intelligent Key & aftermarket fob to start (up to 1 mile range)
I'd love to hear from anyone who can come up with option C) aftermarket starter with longer range and 1 Intelligent Key/starter (either Infiniti or 3rd party)

So if I just want to add remote start functionality to the existing Infiniti keyfobs what needs to be done? Is this something only the dealer can do or can I take it to any local remote start place?
I know the range won't be great but as long as I can make it 30 - 50 yards I'll be fine with it because I don't want an aftermarket keyfob.

You're going to want to have it done by professionals. Some infiniti dealers will do it and I've heard of pricing anywhere between $600-$900.. I'm sure a good shop will do it for less.
Range = the exact same range you're getting right now. For me that's 30-40 feet MAX. (yes, I said feet not yards).

I live in a smaller city where there aren't very many Infiniti's driving around so the odds of someone having done it before are VERY unlikely. I'll call up my Infiniti dealer and see if they can do anything like this.
Does anyone know where I could find more information on the process or who I could contact to find out?

I'm getting at least 30 - 40 yards right now for the doors and windows but I've never tried anything further. Maybe there's something wrong with you key fob or receiver?

+1 Mine has a good range also. I was actually surprise how far I can get with the fob and still works.

umm... it's the dead of winter in chicago and my car has been a parking garage freezing cold all night and i can start my car and let it warm up for 15 minutes from my desk. That's why -- it's not about the distance (max distance) for these remote starts, but also the fact that the spread spectrum technology allows you to start your vehicle through major obstructions like buildings/concrete/etc...

There's also the benefit that if you get a good 2-way starter you'll get the great maximum range and your remote will beep and tell you whether or not the car started or not. I had a cheap starter on my first car and I hated that I could never tell whether or not I actually started the car when I pressed the button.
For my purposes now I really only start my car from inside my house so I don't really need anything fancy.
