Thumbs down Got a SES light tonight on the G

Was driving on the expressway and got the service engine soon light. Immediately checked the gas cap which was tight. Got the light through several starts and while driving home the light turned off. Anyone get this on there 07 or am i the first one with a serious problem?

Sorry to hear of your misfortune, hopefully it's nothing too major. No SES here yet...knock on wood.

Unfortunately with these new cars, we know that electronics don't lie (or they indicate when something including they themselves are faulty). On my mom's 2k5 Honda, the same thing happened early on, until it was solid at around 10k. Dealer replaced an O2 sensor. Just keep an eye on it, you can definitely get it addressed before the bumper to bumper warranty expires.

Take your car in to have the code checked.

You did the right thing with the gas cap check right away. As John said it could be the 02 sensor, or any number of things including a faulty spark plug. We've had both replaced before with relatively new Honda Civic and Acura TL when the SES went off.

The sensors on new cars are notoriously sensitive too. I've had a good one go off a number of times on a Mazda due to excessive moisture after being stored in the winter. It cleared itself after driving the car about half an hour.

It's almost certainly not a serious problem. Just some OBDII emissions code, dealer chan read it and do anything if necessary. If it was flashing, then you need to worry.

I called the dealership today and he said that it was probably the gas cap. It seemed tight but the light went off 2 starts later. He told me its not the restarts that will make the light go away if it was the gas cap, but putting miles on the car will. So he told me to keep an eye on the light and if it goes off again to bring it in. I have to admit this is my first foreign car and the cap is different then my GM was. The GM was screw on where this on goes on in a 1/4 turn. Ill just keep 3 clicking the cap and hope for the best, ill keep you guys posted if it happens again..

No serious problem....
Sounds like a false warning.....in other words the light would not have generated a code.
Those happen occasionally and from what I understand they're nothing to worry about.

If the light comes back, have the dealer scan for the code.

Enjoy the new ride.....
C.

I typically don't agree with dealers, but they are spot on with their advice.

The only other thing I will add, when you fill the vehicle don't fill it up much past when the pump clicks off, if you do on some vehicles you run the risk of flooding the charchol canister and then the CEL will be your friend until the fuel evaporates. And of course never fill your car with it running, your almost assured a CEL will come on if you do that.
