1200 miles and I'm averaging around 17.6mpg (from the on-board computer).

If you want to compare fuel economy with our US friends, definitely use US gallons. Otherwise I would use imperial gallons. I use imperial gallons only sense that is the unit of measure here in Canda.

I'm seeing around 16-18mpg w/ about 60/40% HW/city driving...much worse than my maxima.

Thanks.

I'm hoping for you guys and for me, that the engine is just a little thirsty during break-in. For mixed driving I want 22MPG or above. The green side of me just won't drive anything that averages in the teens.

From what I've experienced with the 3.5s - good luck...

No offense, but if you have such a strong greenside the G was probably not the best choice

If you take it nice and easy, you should be able to keep it right above the teens - and yeah drive a lot of highways too !

Wrong vehicle if your shooting for gas mileage! Though if you take it easy and stay below 65MPH and take advantage of as much drafting other vehicles as possible on highway situations, and your drive-time to reach the highway is within 5 minutes, you could pull 28MPG on a 80/20 hwy/city split. but you read the sticker right? They never advertised mileage in the 20's .. the sticker says 19MPG under IDEAL conditions.

Well that is pretty much how I drive. 28MPG would be great. 25mpg would be great. As long as I can average in the low 20's, the car would be outstanding.
The shifting of the 335i and the price is leaning me towards this car. Unfortunately they really don't make green drivers cars. The closest thing is the $55k GS450h, and that is out of my price range.

that's why I didn't get another G. the gas mileage just isn't good. i love the drive and feel, but for a daily driver, the G is a gas guzzler, especially when you're on the gas.

Yeah, the GS450h is a nice car but outta my range also. To be honest, I didn't even consider fuel economy when I was looking/researching cars this time around. I naively assumed the G would have good mpg numbers Regardless, I absolutely love this car now, and the pleasure I get from driving it is worth the price of gas. If you decide on the G35, I'm sure you will agree and justify as well! Just do it, man!

Shane , here is an excellent conversion table for mileage in US Gal, Imp Gal, L/100kms:
http://www.tdiclub.com/misc/conversions.html

I just drove around 600 kms and if you are going by the readout on the 07 dash, when I got to InTgr8r's house (2 hour drive) it was reading 9.8 L/100km, Ian did see the reading also. When I returned home from my 3 day trip it was reading 10.2 L/100kms. I kept it under 4,000 rpm except for a couple shots up to 6,000.
This was almost totally highway driving with varying RPMS and speeds.
When you convert these to the other figures it is:
9.8 L/100KM = 23.99 US mpg = 28.8 Imp mpg
10.2 L/100km = 23.05 US mpg = 27.69 Imp mpg

I had 4 fillups on my '07 G35S.
1st fill up was 12mpg (US gallons). The dealer had the car running for about an hour outside while we were finishing all the paperwork when I bought it, and the sales guy was setting up my nav system with home address, doing the little things like programming their dealer address into it, etc. Plus, he admitted that infiniti only pays for 87octane gas for the dealerships, so the first tank was definitely not premium.

2nd fill up got me 14.6 mpg
3rd fill up got me 16.7mpg

I was on the 4th tank when I got rear ended so no clue what the mileage on that one is but at least it's all going upwards.
Most of my driving was 80% local, and screw break in miles , I was driving the thing like I stole it right off the lot.
