Will gas mileage get any better?

If you look at the new Z06 Corvette with 505 hp those owners are getting highway mileage in the mid 20's. My '90 ZR-1 Corvette with 400+ hp got 25 mpg.
My new G is getting 14 mpg city and 21 mpg highway. If you look at the aero dynamics of the new G it is as good if not better then a Corvette. So to say a 300hp car like the G shouldn't get half decent gas mileage is incorrect.
What is interesting is the mileage for these cars are all over the place so either the gas in different areas are playing a big factor or some of us are just bad drivers.
Or maybe there is something wrong in the computer programming in some of our cars?

You simply cannot overlook vehicle weight. 3600 lbs. is a lot of weight to overcome regardless of aerodynamics.
Based on weight alone, the G35 has to work harder than Corvette to maintain a fixed highway speed. I’d also venture to guess the G35 sees more driveline power loss to the wheels than the Corvette. I have nothing to prove that though. Just a guess because I believe Chevy spends a lot more time and money on the engineering of the Corvette when compared to Infiniti’s G35.
Dang, I just looked over mine and I'm averaging 18.5 MPG.
I'm barely peaking 4K RPM at around 80 MPH. I'm driving very modest during the break in stage with only 1100 miles.
This is 3 MPG less than the 350Z 6MT (Which I drove hard). I usually averaged 21 to 22 MPG.

Do I expect the G should get 28mpg? No, I know window stickers lie but still overall average should still be in the 20 -22 mpg not 16 - 18mpg that some of us appear to be getting. I have gone thru 7 tanks of gas and only 1 of the seven even broke 20 mpg. If I drive purly around town I see 14mpg and I'm taking it easy so I still feel something is out of wack just don't know what.
It'll be interesting to see as we get more and more owners of the '07 over the next few months and see then what the average mpg is. There is still too many of us with cars that are just being broken in.
And don't get me wrong I love this car. If the window sticker said 15 city and 22 highway I probably would have still bought it. It's the fact Infiniti said 18 and 28.

I have not gotten below 18.5 (bu tthe car computer) and am averaging 19.5 around town (w a cruising commute0 and when I checked got 24-5 on a highway trip, not babying it. I have just over 3000 miles. So yours is not getting its full milage potential.
the main problem I have is the same as mentioned earlier, don't put a completely unrealistic MPG on the window sticker. I have never had a car that was so far off what the sticker said.
I did notice something interesting today... The trip computer was showing 40 miles to empty, gas gauge was almost to empty, but I could only fit 16.5 gallons into the tank. Maybe there is something going on with the trip computer/gas tank sensor. I'll check my MPG by hand next time to see.

The high rpm's in 5th gear at highway speeds doesn't help any either (5 AT). I keep checking to see if the car needs to shift. 3K at highway speeds on the auto's just seems high. I guess I'm just spoiled by the 6th gear in my old Firebirds and Corvettes.
I'm not convinced the weight is the reason either. I had a V8 firebird with a 4speed auto, big cam, 4K rpm stall, and it averaged the same as my G. They both weigh about the same. My Firebird wouldn't even pass inspection, but it managed equal mpg.

But bad milage compared to what? My previous car was a CTS-V and performance is only a little bit better but my milage was only in the 13's were the G gives me back 19's with the same driving. I think that we get great performance/economy, maybe the best in the segment.

I just drove around 600 kms and if you are going by the readout on the 07 dash, when I got to InTgr8r's house (2 hour drive) it was reading 9.8 L/100km, Ian did see the reading also. When I returned home from my 3 day trip it was reading 10.2 L/100kms. I kept it under 4,000 rpm except for a couple shots up to 6,000.
This was almost totally highway driving with varying RPMS and speeds.
When you convert these to the other figures it is:
9.8 L/100KM = 23.99 US mpg = 28.8 Imp mpg
10.2 L/100km = 23.05 US mpg = 27.69 Imp mpg

I'm just over halfway through my first tank (224 miles) with at least an hour to an hour and a half of stopped idle time (about 35 minutes of it at the dealer, and I had at least another 30-35 minutes), and I am still averaging 15.9mpg. I am amazed at how good the gas mileage is for the type of driving I am doing. I would bet I get 18-20 in city once I get past this first or second tank (and am not sitting idle learning the car as much).
