Completely off topic, but I noticed that Mandy Moore is from your hometown. She must be a big celebrity there eh?
I took it to the dealer once and they did something with the computer but it hasn't helped. Right now I'm doing 11 mpg.

Isn't that what the redline is for?

Who is Mandy Moore? Ok never mind I just looked her up, my Son knows of her.

11MPG.....that is brutal. I can't imagine how mine can average 20.2 US MPG while you are only getting 11 MPG........very strange indeed.

Btw, here is a Mandy Moore refresher. I just found out tonight that she is from Nashua and it made me think of you.

Glad I'm not the only one to experience this.

All I can say is wow! Since she lives in my town maybe I'll invite her over to just to hang out.

On the gas mileage I'm going to call my dealer again.....

I managed to get 26.1 mpg driving at 65 mph yesterday. That was driving an hour back from my parents. For my car, that seems to be the magic number. At 70, 75, and 80 the fuel economy drops off sharply. City driving is another story though. I was using the laser cruise control during this time too.

yea, I think 65MPH is the sweet spot, but even then I avg about 24 mpg. Yesterday I drove from NY to boston and the avg MPG of the ENTIRE trip (which was about 95% highway), was 20.2mpg. My avg speed across the entire trip was 63.6MPH, (I cruised @ 80 on 65mPH roads and 68 on 55mph roads). So, I'm thinkin 16-20mpg is all I can expect from this car. Pretty bad, but then that accelleration is more badass.

I've been researching the G35 for some time now, as I'm considering replacing my current car with a 2005-2008 G35 at some point in the next 10-12 months. One thing that really surprises me is the gas mileage. I would expect the car to average around 20mpg in mixed driving, with only moderate stoplight acceleration (not really getting on it too much.) I see the mpg is all over the place, and I'm sure that's partially dependent on driving style and where you are driving (cold v. warm climate, aggressive v. low-key, etc.)

My question is this - how many of you manually calculate your actual gas mileage per tank vs. relying on the mpg datalog the computer provides to you? In my experience, these can be off by quite a bit (meaning 2-3 mpg.) My brother's Jetta GLI is regularly off by around 2 mpg (meaning he's getting around 30 mpg on the hwy vs. 28 shown by the computer.)

Over time, if you use the automatic top-off at the same gas station when possible and divide your tripometer miles by your gallons pumped, this is the most consistent method to calculate your mpg.

So, for those tracking you mileage in this manner, what's your fuel mileage like? 100% hwy? Overall average?]

For example, my car gets around 22-23 mpg on 100% highway driving. On 50/50 city/hwy, I average around 20. You can knock 1 mpg off those figures for winter driving.

The gas mileage thing won't prevent me from getting a G if that's the car I decide on. Mostly curious, although to be honest I sure wouldn't mind getting a little better fuel mileage than the beast I currently drive!

Real world 20MPG is unlikely for a car in this segment. My old 330xi (E46) would usually average about 18.7mpg in mixed driving.

I'm not as familiar with the bimmer engine line. . . does the 3.0L inline 6 in that car make 225 horsepower, or is the 255 hp version of that engine?

The AWD probably cost 1-2 mpg over the rwd. My buddy has a 330 coupe with the 225 inline 6 and he averages about 25 in mixed driving (rwd, auto.) Sweet looking ride, despite the serious power deficit.

I sure love the new 335i but $43K. . .ouch!!! Think I'll take the extra $10k and get a G!
