clear bra over time

This may be the wrong place to put this, but I figure since some of you guys had a car before this w/ a clear bra, you could answer it.

Does the clear bra cause uneven color wear? so over time would the part covered be a differnt tone than the rest of the car?

On my car the bra itself has yellowed just ever so slightly, however I do not think the paint has changed any.

Same with mine... very slight yellowing of the clear bra. Strong chemicals or cleaners will also yellow the clearbra faster, so the more gentle cleaners you can use, the better.

+1 Exactly - despite putting wax on it with UV protection (recommended by the installer and the manufacturer), the bra has yellowed just slightly, enough to see. EDIT>>> Per another question, the bra was installed in 2004, and has yellowed since them. It's an XPel bra.

This is another reason I'm not putting one on the G.

It's really not noticable unless you get at certain angels and in certain light. I think I have had it on a little less than a year.

I got tired of making my cars ugly with bras and other junk only to take it off and make it look nice again for the next guy.

Better off just enjoying it now..

After a Hill Country run that did $600 in damage from flying rocks, I put a clear bra on AND I will run a nose mask this time during the run.

The answer is no (at least with my ventureshield). They provide no UV protection intentionally so that there won't be any uneven color wear.

I have had mine for over a year and it still looks the same as it did the day I had it installed (so does my bumper).

Older 3M bras will yellow over time. Newer bras, specially Venture Shield, should not yellow.

I just checked out 2 Gs at my work parking lot. They had clear bras on and they looks dull and were visable 10feet away. is it just that they don't take care of their cars?

Hard to say ... maybe if you knew what year the cars were. We can assume they had them installed from the beginning and figure out how old the film is.

Did you get yours installed?

I had a 3M clear bra removed from my car last summer which was on for nearly two years. It had not yellowed at all during that time. However there was a slight paint colour differerence between the uncovered and covered area on my hood and fenders. It seemed the UV inhibitors of the clear bra prevented paint fade. However, my car had only two treatments of a permawax dealer paint protection during that time so the paint was not well protected.

I have since compounded the car, regularly apply sealant/wax and reinstalled a new clear bra. The compounding restored a perfect blend where the areas met.
