Recording satellite radio on hard drive?

Is it true that the new g35 can't record satellite radio on its 9.5gb hard drive? Many if not most cheap satellite radios sold can record up to 50 hours of programming, I don't use it yet but I imagine it's as convenient as a DVR/tivo. Sounds like an ideal way to always play a new song you like from beginning to end one after the other, instead of hoping for good songs you haven't heard hundreds of times already to play on your favorite satellite channels. I think the 08 cadillac cts can record satellite radio on a hard drive, if you look closely at the dash there are buttons marked REC and HDD, saw it mentioned on xmfan.com. Since the g35 may have been the first car with a hard drive, can Infiniti make sure that at least the 08 model will have the ability to record several hours of satellite programming, maybe while the car is off so that's it's ready to go when you get in? Can anyone explain how satellite radio recorders like XM inno, etc., work?

Also, can mp3 players/phones like i-mobile 902 be plugged in or play music from its hard drive through bluetooth to the car's speakers?

AFAIK you cannot record onto the HD any way other than from the in-dash CD player.

Yep, that's correct.

What's the point of the hard drive then? Anyone planning on taking the time to copy CDs they already own onto the hard drive? The only thing the hard drive is good for is recording satellite radio or mp3s or wirelessly accessing the internet and downloading songs from it. Cadillac gets it, why not Infiniti? Does anyone have a satellite radio recorder like XM inno?

How do mp3 players or phones with mp3 capability and/or bluetooth connect? Can the g35 play mp3 songs from bluetooth phones without being wired to it, can it be wired to phones at all?

that is pretty retarded. why would anyone record songs from cds they already own to the hard drive. I guess you can borrow other peoples cds and burn them on there?.. Pretty pointless if you ask me. I'd rather burn the cd with my cd burner instead.

Hopefully someone will find a hack for this hard drive. Maybe pop it out, decode it and be able to copy directly to it. Maybe even add in a bigger one.

What changes are coming for the 08 model year g35? Anyone want to make sure infiniti knows that customers want satellite (xm) radio recording capability in the 08 model? Think about it, especially if you have a short 30 minute commute, why catch the end of one song, hear a few songs you've already heard hundreds of times, then hear the beginning of another song before you have to get out of the car? If you can record 50 hours of satellite radio on your car, you never ever have to listen to a song you don't want to or have heard before, never miss the beginning or end of songs, and just hear great new songs every minute you're in your car. It makes even satellite radio a hundred times better. 08 Cadillac CTS may not be as good as g35, but the overall experience of driving one might be a lot better if it has satellite radio recording capability. Infiniti needs to catch up and use their hard drive for a worthwhile purpose.

Again, anybody have a satellite radio recorder like xm inno? Is there a way to connect a bluetooth phone with mp3 song playing ability to the g35 by wire or bluetooth and play songs from it? I think samsung d600 bluetooth phone can play its songs on some audis for instance. If not, there's another thing for infiniti to implement for 08 g35s.

XM is actually getting sued by the RIAA because of their devices that record satellite content. Of course the Riaa thinks it is illegal and they have to dig their filthy mitts in. Until we see a resolution on that to set the precedent, we won't see anymore devices that record sat radio.
Just think about all the "I agree" and other legal disclaimer BS we have in our vehicles now. Imagine another screen popping up when you turn on your sat radio? "Please do not record satellite radio to the internal blah blah..."

so if you have navigation, the CD player goes into the trunk, right? so you can't record from it....kinda lame.

what type of memory cards are compatible with the HD (SD, Sony, etc.)? I'm assuming you can record from your laptop to the memory card and then upload to the car, correct?

The only memory cards the G can take is a Compact Flash card.....unless you have an adapter at least. Also, you can not transfer your MP3s from the CF card to the HD, it is only for playing.

Why not? I don't know about everyone else but when I buy a CD I don't necessarily love every song on the CD. So by recording it to the hard drive I can then delete the songs I don't like.

Plus you also have the option of sorting the songs by mood, artist, date, etc. More then any CD player can do.

Also most people own more then 6 CD's which means you have to go into the trunk and exchanges CD's in order to listen to more CD's.

This is one feature in the car I love.

I completley agree.

*start of rant*
At least for me, it gets tiring reading some people's comments about the G's audio options. People b1tch about how they think it sucks they can't record from the CF card, how it's stupid that you can't record MP3 CDs to the HD, blah blah blah blah blah. Well you know what? Last year's model didn't have ANY of these options. It didn't have a 9.5GB hard drive nor did it have a compact flash card to play music. In fact, no other competitor to the G has these options either!! And don't forget this car is priced in the $30k range.

Now matter what some people have, it seems they still try and find something to b!tch about. I am not saying the G's execution on everything is absolutely perfect here, but jeez c'mon is it so hard to just enjoy what you have??

*end of rant*

I agree with you, probably just a little frustration. Nissan/Infiniti seems to always be a little late to the game, and then when something is unveiled it'll take another few generations to get it right.

I do kind of share the frustration in the sense that this is a great feature, but they seem to have restricted most of its usefulness.

The dodge mygig has it right. 20 gig hd with USB and you can copy MP3s to it.

Of course you have to buy a Dodge

I'd take the drive of the G with its limited HD over the dodge with its better implemented storage device

Agreed.

While the HDD may not do everything that a PC can do, it is pretty damn handy. I personally hate carrying around a cd case in my car and no I don't have to. Sure I have a bunch of MP3s on my computer, and if I want to listen to those I have an iPod and a 2GB CF card. I think that this is a pretty awesome feature. While I think that the music industry needs to give some thought to the pricing of new release music, would it kill you to support the industry just a little?

I almost forgot to even address the idea of recording from XM to the HDD. There is so much to choose from on XM at any time that you should be able to find something you want to listen to. An XM radio subscription gives you the rights for listening live not to record it. If you like a song that much support the artist.
