Besdies the HP -vs- Tq, can you also elaborate on the advantages of driving in manumatic? My question, Is it bad to manually downshift the engine? I know that the feature is there for it and the ECU/TCU controls shift points either upshifting or downshifting, But does doing this causes premature wear and tear on the engine/transmission while driving in manumatic???
This question is for THX723 or anyone who is very knowledgable about engine dynamics. Thank You.

The simple answer to your question is NO @ premature wear from using manumatic mode. Automatic or manumatic mode, the transmission wear and tear the same way. For that matter, your driving habit has more affect on it than which shift mode you're in.

As for the advantages of using manumatic mode ... well, that's not so obvious from a daily driving basis. From a strickly straight line performance point of view, there's no advantages since the G35 TCU already allows one to rev to redline before automatically up shifting. On the road course track, however, the advtanges are greater. The ability to down shift before corner entry, holding a gear on-power at mid corner, engine braking, etc. etc.

LoL ... it sounds so bad when you put it that way.

The TQ/HP misconception has been around for ages and it's one that frustrates the living day light out of any physicist and automotive engineer. I do what I can to make a small difference.

How's the new shop?

It's awesome.
It almost feels like one of the Boeing test facilities but I get to direct my own R&D testing and projects.

I've certaintly been finding new and interesting ways of making HP on the VQ. Not much longer and I will have a killer new exhaust for the DE and HR engines.

BTW - the 6MT dyno was barely higher than the 5AT dyno, which I find very interesting... there should be more than 2-3HP in there due to tranny difference. Comparing them side-by-side showed them to be almost identical.

Either the 5AT was high, the 6MT was low, or a combination of both. How many miles on that 6MT?
