this is the cable I have:

I like it because it will charge the ipod at the same time. It works great. Only issue I have is the cable is a little bit long. I got mine at the apple B&M store

With the cable plugged into the bottom of my Video iPod, I get a ground loop hum. I bought a Radio Shack ground loop isolator, which I connected to the G35's Audio L/R input. I connected the Xtrememac cable between the iPod and the ground loop isolator. That didn't help. I was still get a loud humming sound.
So, I got another cable that connects to the top of the iPod (where you normally connect the headphones), and then I connected the cable's audio L/R and video to the G35. This cable does not provide power. On the bottom of my iPod (in the docking port), I connected another cable that only provides power, which I plugged it into the G35's accessory power. I was still getting a ground loop hum. Finally, I placed the Radio Shack ground loop isolator between the cable connected to theheadphone jack and the G35's audio L/R input. The ground loop was gone! Now, I can listen (or watch) my video iPod while charging it, with no ground loop hum. The only problem is that I need two cables connected to the iPod (the first connected to the headphone jack, and the second connected to the docking port to provide power charge). Not normally a big deal, though. When I go on a long car ride, I charge my iPod ahead of time, so I normally don't need to provide it power while using it in my car.
i had exactly the same humming issue that you had. i really wanted a cable that did both charging and audio hook. I also have a case for my ipod that blocks the headphone jack for anything bigger than the ipod headphones.
I bought one of these for my wife's VW, not sure if it would work for the video, but probably would if the right A/V cable was used.

The solution I mentioned earlier works, but I have to connect a cable to the headphone jack (with the Radio Shack ground loop isolator), and a charger to the docking port. I haven't figured out how to get the Xtrememac cable to work (the cable that goes into the iPod's docking port and has audio L/R, video, and accessory charger all in one).

A company named Sendstation is suppossed to come out with an iPod remote that connects to the steering wheel. I had posted about this elsewhere. The remote looked pretty sleek. The remote was suppossed to be available last February, but it's still not available.
Scosche also makes an iPod remote for the steering wheel. IMO, it's not as sleek looking as the prototype picture of the Sendstation remote, but it is available now. See:

There's also a link to a video on this page.
It looks somewhat interesting. If I get it, not sure how much I would use it versus fighting the urge to look down on my iPod, and if I were going to do that, then what's the point of the remote? I supposse it would still be quite convenient to have for skipping songs, and when looking down at the iPod would be too much hassle (or too dangerous).
I hope that it wouldn't turn into a projectile if the airbag would go off!
