Possiblity of turbos on a 2007...

Yeah, yeah, yeah... everybody wants kits to come out... we got that.

I'm more interested in those that have TRULY considered the possibility from an engineering standpoint. I looked under the hood the other day... pretty tight around those exhaust manifolds... tighter than on my 2005 from what I recall. Kind of tight for plumbing as well. Looks to be plenty of room for the ICs, though. The irony, is this...

The dual intakes makes for nice plumbing layout for dual turbos/ICs.... but the sport bumper now has lower intakes better suited for a single IC. Heh... so it goes. I really liked the JWT kit because of dual ICs that kept a nice stock appearance. The stock sport bumper makes this more difficult... it seems a single IC would be more efficient, now, in tearms of cooling, due to the bumper design.

I haven't seen this topic discussed besides the usual "Yeah, turbos would be cool for the 07" stuff. Any info on true engineering viability?

They can make them fit... If they can fit a 16 cylinder with 4 turbos in Veyron, they can fit a V6 with TT in the G35 Sedan

It's more than making them fit. Engine management software is a major issue with forced induction as is emissions requirements. Newer cars are very difficult to work on. The turbos would have to have enough room. You cant even see the turbos from the hood of the BMW 335i. They are buried deep down in the engine bay.
Then you have to deal with the heat, plumbing, etc.
I'm not saying it cant be done.. but there has to be enough demand for it before anyone invests in the huge development costs.
Lets see what happens with the aftermarket when these cars have been around for awhile.
I think these cars are pretty optimized in stock form. I have no desire to add more power.. it has the right balance of power and handling in stock form...

Thumbs up

It would be very labor intensive, probably have several weeks, if not months of downtime. Sure would be cool to see. I think that a S/C setup like this would be kickass!

I would buy this in a heartbeat!

Powerdome hood is bad... mmmmmmkay?

I don't expect to see kits out next month. That's not what I am saying. I am just wondering if there is any info on any current developemnt or research into this... and any major stumbling blocks, mostly from a physical design standpoint. Sure, ECUs are getting harder and harder to crack... but they always seem to find away.

I'm nore interested in the actual engineering, just because it looks a lot tighter than the previous gen.

I saw a 700+ HP 350Z at the auto show last Sat., so anything is possible. But what happens with reliability and driveability is anyone's guess. The 2k7 G35's fuel economy isn't so hot to begin with, so what would be reasonable? 20 on the highway for 400 HP and less driveability? Nothing is free, it's always a trade-off in the aftermarket world....

Dunno, as a lay person I've heard the lack of direct injection is a negative on this new VQ...not sure why Nissan wouldn't have done it. Also, the torque is on the low side as the motor develops its HP at high rpms, there's two items where there's room for improvement on the stock motor....
