Oil consumption issues?

It is my understanding that the VQ35 has had it's share of oil consumption issues. Reading thru some of the forums, it seems to be a common problem with many. Nissan seems to ignore the issue..

I know the VQ35HR is mostly of new design.. was wondering if anyone is having excessive oil consumption issues...

i don't mind some oil consumption. many motors are made to do this, especially italians. no big deal.

It's a pretty big problem with the older engines and how people were trying to get it fixed under warantee. I hope they addressed the problem on this new engine by putting better piston rings. Oil was getting into the combustion chamber due to faulty rings. Some people were burning up to a quart a month... that is ridiculous. Best thing to do is to break in the engine correctly and don't throttle it. I think after 1200 miles, continue to break it in by not racing it. Instead when going on the freeway, downshift to a gear to steadily get the rpm over 4000. You gotta think of breaking in the car like chissling. The 4000-7250 rpm is new territory and you gotta take it easy. I don't think I'll race the thing until i hit 3000 miles... It's a damn long time to wait but I don't want to take a chance.

Do you have a source for this "common problem with many" or is it the few people out of the 40,000 members on this site you're referring to?

The engines where there are a few reported cases of excessive oil burning seem to be mostly on the rev up '05+ engines. My car does not use any oil and I don't know of any VQs that do. It would probably be more accurate to say it is an uncommon problem a few are experiencing.

Oil useage.........

I don't believe oil consumption was a problem until the '06 models came out.
And it may have been just the '06 that had issues with consumption, haven't
heard diffrent! All the Gs with their engines being replaced have been that
year........I don't have a problem with my '04.......of any kind!

The issue is mostly with the 05 and 06 RevUp motors. It is a problem that Infiniti/Nissan is very aware of. Many on this forum have had their engines replaced under warranty because of this problem. I am currently going through this with my 06. It is consuming over 1.5 quarts every 1000 miles and Infiniti has already conducted an oil consumption test a couple of times and it has been documented. Unfortunately for me, things have kind of stalled there. The dealer seems to be stalling or dragging their feet right now in resolving this issue. I am going to the dealer tomorrow for an oil change and hopefully I can get some answers as to what is going to happen with my G. But yes, unfortunately it is a common problem with many 05 and 06 6MT's.

1.5qts per 1000 miles. You got a rotary engine under the hood or something.
