Sirius + Nav?
Sirius + Nav?
Hi All,
I'm looking at buying an 07 G35x, and I'm trying to figure out if I can get Sirius Satellite radio installed with the Nav option at the time of purchase?
I run into problems when I try to do this while configuring the car over the Internet.
Has anyone done this?
Thanks a lot.

This pissed me off, It's a major letdown on the car that they won't allow Sirius. I'm picking my car up on Friday and we're going to see if we can use the stock antenna to connect it to a separate Sirius receiver and connect it via the aux input. extremely disappointing, but I guess I'm stuck with it. I'll definitly be making nasty comments on the survey.
Guys,
I understand that everyone has their preferences, but when you take a step back, there is really not much difference between XM and Sirius.
Their channel line-ups are similar in that they both have channels for every genre of music. They also have the same news channels (CNN, Fox News, CNBC, etc). The sports line-up is somewhat different - e.g. XM has an exclusive agreement with MLB. Also, their pricing is essentially the same as well.
The only other discernable difference is that Sirius has Howard Stern, which in my opinion, is a 'non-event' (he has been doing the "same old schtick" for the past 25 years!). But then as I said everyone has different likes and dislikes.
Bottom line - if you are going to pay a premium for the Navigation Package, I just don't think it's worth the extra expense (and aggravation) just to get Sirius over XM. To me the combination of XM and Real-time traffic (which you can't get with Sirius), is one of the best features of the Navigation Package.
If you really want Sirius, you should consider the G35 without the Navigation Package. Or you could always buy a Chrysler!
Just my two-cents worth!

Sirius has commercial free music, all NFL games and both home and away broadcasts!, NHL Hockey! Howard Stern (it's not the same old, clearly you haven't listed to it on Sirius) they have NASCAR (if you like that), Playboy channel, Maxim Magazine channel, Martha Suart, Jamie Foxx, and the list goes on of content that XM doesn't have or come close to touching; just plain overall much better programming for the same price... why would anyone choose XM? forced into it by auto mfgrs, but clearly, when the numbers started at 6M for XM to 600K for Sirius to 1 year later both of them having 7M subscribers, it's clear there's a reason that XM has lost a major portion of their subscribers, in fact if you call them and tell them you are canceling they will give you 3 free months just so they can keep a subscriber, if you have XM, make the call, you'll see.
Sirius has a portable player that can receive live signal. and their receivers are much higher quality... XM uses that crap china company adelpia or what ever it's called. poor quality receivers.
And there's a good consensus that feels XM is of lower quality and I've only listed to XM in a few cars and it was definitely muffled, sounded like AM radio on most channels.
They is a major difference between Sirius and XM... unless all you care about is lisiting to the top 40 pop songs (which is now top 40 rap) over and over again.
I have over 2 hours of commute a day and I often take long trips (i'm right now in the middle of a 2500 mile road trip over 5 days.) If you do look for good content on the radio, Sirius is the only one that offers this content

Very well said. I believe the most important difference of all those you mentioned is that Sirius offers commercial free music. If I want commercial radio, I will listen to regular radio. I am not going to pay extra for commercial radio. Unbelievable.
Of course, the marketing people for XM and the advertising community are trying to spin this by saying that people who buy satellite radio buy it for the variety and are really not that interested in commercial free music. Of course this is what you would say if you are trying to sell advertising on satellite radio. Otherwise, you are SOL.

Your bias is clearly coming through.
- XM also has Commercial Free Music Channels;
- Poor quality receivers? Is that what the "Sirius Sales Guy" told you? Is that why it is the exclusive choice of Honda, Acura, Lexus, Hyundai, and GM? If the quality is so bad, why does Infiniti include it with the Navigation Package and not Sirius?
- XM has Nascar and Major League Baseball including the World Series and Off-Season highlights;
- XM has CD/Digital Sound quality. I don't know whose radio or cars you listened in, but it certainly is nowhere close to AM or FM Radio. Maybe you forgot to remove your ear plugs? Also, who did you poll - your buddies?;
- You apparently have no idea what their program schedule contains, because it is not just the Top 40 like you claim;
- As for Howard - what can I say? I don't like him, and never did. And yes, whether you want to believe it or not, it is the same old crap. XM has Opie and Anthony and they are no better (I don't listen to them either);
In the end, you need to do whatever is best for you and your tastes.
Zorak - Who told you that XM Channels are not commercial free? It is obivous you have never listened to XM!

You come across like a marketer for Infiniti or XM. Thanks for your input.
Call me crazy, I've only had XM for a week now, but I have yet to hear a commercial on any music station. I had Sirius for 3 years prior to this and it was a great service. XM audio quality is just as good as anything I had with Sirius so no complaints there. I do miss some of my favorite Sirius stations though. While XM has similar genres they don't play the same artists or selection. It'll take some getting used to, but as a user of both, so far it's a pretty good switch (though I still lean towards Sirius for programming, I LOVE XM real time traffic)
wow... lot's of misinformation in this thread
both xm and sirius each have 69 channels of commercial free. xm then adds stations with commercials on top of the 69.
seems xm wins this one.
me? i have no preference as i'm an ipod guy! 80giger!

Again, you are showing how truly misinformed you are on this topic. Before you respond, you need to take a closer look at XM's program lineup.
I am not sure why the Sirius subscribers in this thread are so sure that XM is inferior, but I would be willing to bet that none of you have ever listened to XM (or even seen the channel lineup). What I do know is that when you compare both Sirius and XM objectively, they are pretty close in the variety of entertainment options they offer.
In any event, if you are willing to pay out extra dollars just to have Sirius in your G35, then that's your decision. I simply don't think it is worth the extra investment, given that XM provides the same level of service and variety (and more when you take into account the Real-Time Traffic that comes with the Navigation package).
