Yet ANOTHER annoying radio behavior - preset buttons / manual tuning
Yet ANOTHER annoying radio behavior - preset buttons / manual tuning
Add this to the list of quirky bugs in the audio system that is slowly driving me crazy. Unfortunately this list is adding up. If this radio were a piece of software being released I think it would be a Beta Version 0.8 rather than a release Version 1.0.
Lets say on Preset A I have 6 preset channels.
10
20
30
40
50
60
I go to Preset 3 - Channel 30 - and manually tune down to Channel 32. I'm listening for a while and decide I want to go to another preset.
Now if I bump the steering wheel control up or down arrows, I would think it *should* take me to either 1 - the preset on either side of 32 or 2 - the preset on either side of 30 which is the last preset I went to. Either of these I could live with.
Instead, up takes you to Preset 6 and down to Preset 1. Argh! As if manually tuning the radio is just to confusing for the computer and it "starts over" in the ether above Preset one and below Preset 6.

Maybe it's looking at the actual station number?
Or are these XM radio channels?
Yes these are XM stations.
I know what the button should do - I just wish it should do it differently.
If I use the Up/Down between presets to go to Preset 3 and then manually tune to Channel 32 - the presets on either side are 30 (Preset 3) and 40 (Preset 4) - the up/down would hopefully take you to the closest preset. But no matter what manually tuned station you are on on whatever part of the dial - Up takes you to Preset 6 and Down takes you to Preset 1. Personal preference I guess.

I actually have mine segmented by genre over the Preset "Letters" - A (music) B (sports) and C (talk).

My argument, and I would argue logic, is it should go to the nearest preset - back to Preset 3 / Channel 30 in my example. In reality, the radio will actually bump you completely out of that loop and take you all the way to Preset 6. As if manually tuning somehow wipes out any memory it has of where it is on your dial. This makes no sense to me.
Like I said, maybe there's a good reason they did it, it just seems illogical to me.

My argument, and I would argue logic, is it should go to the nearest preset. If its manually tuned to 12 (between Presets 1 and 2) and you hit "up preset" it should go to the nearest preset which is in the case Preset 1 / Channel 10. But in reality it takes you from between Presets 1 and 2 to Preset 6. The radio will actually bump you completely out of that loop.
