I just drove the car on a road course, and it shifts instantly. The only lag I felt (and not on the track) was once when the car had just shifted, and I tried to immediately shift again (i.e. an error).

I have an X and not a sport, so no paddles for me. I find the manual shifts fine, but not exceptional That said, I've been on a few extremely spirited drives in this car (so far, it is one of my few cars that hasn't seen any real track time), and I have to say, the sport mode of the automatic is fantastic. I find there is not much reason to shift manually. Get aggressive with the car (for real, not just floor it on an on ramp). Tap the brakes to enter the corner and you get a rev matched down shift. It will hold the gear (at high RPMS) all through the corner, until it readlines and shifts, or you let off. It's really impressive. I usually drive manaul cars, so I'm not totally experienced with a wide variety of automatics, but this one is very pleasant.

Haven't noticed any lag with my car's shifts, though I'm still babying it since it's still being broken in.

There definitely is a delay when shifting the automatic and is one of the main reasons why I decided to go with the 6mt. I was already 90% percent sure I was going to purchase the manual, but once I test drove the automatic, it was an easy decision.l

Agreed on the rev matching - it stays in the lower gear longer than most autos, making that acceleration out of the corner without the need to downshift.
I also find the paddle shifters instantaneous. It helps to punch the gas a split second after you downshift.
All in all... a VERY impressive and responsive AT system.

Wow.. if only drag racers knew this... They have been using automatics forever... I doubt you can shift faster than a lagging auto.. As much as I love manuals.. they can't outshift an auto..

Guys, I don't want this thread to turn into a an automatic vs. manual debate, they both have their place. The purpose was to try and get more information on how quickly the automatic shifted in full manual mode.

Carnutz, you seem to have minority opinion based on the reponses already posted. Could you elaborate. If you read my original post you will see that one of the problems is that the word "delay" is highly subjective. Until I drive one for myself, I can only go by what's posted.

to answer the question! the 6mt is cool because you can choose your shift points(oh you also can in the auto). the lag in WOT is minimal and you cant really tell. at slower speeds the auto does take a second(delay) to switch gears. with that said in the 6mt(also have a 6mt camaro) you still have that second between your shifts when you let up off the gas to hit the clutch. both trannies are good but the 6mt in the G is kinda rough compared to other cars. i chose the AT because there was not that big of a difference especially with the paddles. you can also cruise around town in comfort when you want, which comes in handy when you live in the city.
