I dont think I would want to paint it the color of the car... just my opinion though.

I wonder if you could have it re-chromed or something? Maybe higher quality chrome finish would hold up better? Any ideas???

Probably not possible, the "bad" chrome would have to be stripped first. However, I'm thinking the base plastic either has too much flex, or it is to soft to support the chrome finish.

Yeah, that was my worry. I think the problem is the base plastic is so thin and flimsy that the rocks cause it to bend on impact, which cracks the chrome paint (or whatever) causing it to chip off.

Its a real shame though... WAYY too nice of a car to be screwed up by something so cheap to do right!

I can understand using a clear bra for the bumper or hood protecting the weak paint, but I find it hard to accept the need to have 3M to cover a grill for chipping. By the way, within the first 12 months of ownership, most dealerships will replace almost any trim parts for some kind of defect or flaw. After that time, usually the owner is on his own. Getting back to the Grill...............I would want to know what infiniti is going to do about this. What is the first thing you see when you look at the front of your car?????

I've never heard even a whisper about any grill problems for any G35 until now.

Everyone needs to go to their dealer and complain. If there are enough something may be done. I went to my dealer yesterday and they said they doubt infinity will do anything because it is not a defect it is road hazard damage. They did check with infinity and make the complaint though. They called me the next day and said some infinity rep. is coming next week or so and he wants to see it when he comes. So we'll see what he says. Part of their argument is that there is also a fair amount of paint damage. I've never had a vehicle take so much damage to the grill and the paint.

I've never heard of any G35 grill problems until this. My '04 Coupe has 23,000 miles and the grill is faultless. Nissan probably just designed the new grill for looks and overlooked testing it for durability. Sounds like it is too flexible causing the chrome finish to chip.

Caveman- Good work! Let us know how that goes with the dealer/rep. Let him know there are a lot more like you with the same problem out there! I would take mine straight to the dealer too, but its 90 min away. I cannot seem to get them on the phone either...

+1. My 03 G grille looked excellent after almost 80,000 kms on it.

It might a good idea to forward the link to this thread to your dealership so they can see that many other members are complaining on the grille's quality. That is what I plan on doing.

I wonder if one can apply some sort of a film (sort of like a clear bra) to go straight on the grille. I know they sell these sticky wraps for school notebooks. If there is a colorless one, that might do the trick.

I will let you guys know. And they suggested a clear bra for the car too but my problem is when you spend this much money on a car you shouldn't have to go spend another $800.00 on some saran wrap to protect it. I've had my truck for two years from brand new and it does not show anywhere near the damage the car does. And I drive it like a truck. I take it snowboarding all the time and you get hit with lots of debris on those roads.
