If the chrome flaking is due to flex, then a clear bra on the grille would not help that right? It would hold the flakes in place though, but would only mask the problem. A clear bra could not add any rigidity.

The chrome is not flaking though, and that was the dealerships comment. It is just really weak and shallow chrome and any contact from any debris pits it and the black plastic from underneath shows through. The chrome needs to be thicker like there emblem on the front. My grill and paint show damage but there is not one mark on the emblem. And the grill is the worst.

I dont have marks anywhere that I have noticed, except the grill. It is pretty nicely peppered.

I agree that the clear bra on the grill would most likely just mask the problem. I think if you did that and then took the clear off a couple months later, the chips would come off with the adhesive.

Now that i see all you guys having problems with the grill im gonnna have to check mine more closely. One thing i do know is that my friends dad has a 04 nissan maxima. He had to replace the chrome grill on that 3 times during his lease for chipping and flaking. Note: in 04 the grill was chrome, now in 07 they got rid of the chrome for a less problematic black grill? Seems the company as a whole might have a chrome plating problem, not just infiniti. Anyone else have a maxima with this problem?

Are there any aftermarket grills available for the 07 yet?

I had a pretty cool blacked-out grill for my Audi and am curious to see how something like that would look on the G.

There is a thread on here somewhere about a honeycomb design one. Someone chopped a pic of Garnet Canucks with it on there... youd have to search for it...

Go to your dealer and make them aware of it. The more complaints that go in the better chance of them doing something about it.

update

I just had my car at the dealer today for 1st service and I mentioned the grill. When the guy brought my car back he told me that there is a known problem w/ the '07 grill, and that they are working on a replacement part.

My invoice states, "Confirmed chipped grill, update part not available. Will contact customer when grill is available"

I didn't get an ETA but I'm glad they are aware and working on the problem.

This grill problem is truly sad, its much much tooo nice of a car to have such a cheap flimsy grill that chips so easily

Same here. I wonder what they will do about it in the future. I am glad i am not the only one. I have 2200 miles on it.
