Rock chip on windshield
Rock chip on windshield
Got one driving to Vail this week. Right in my line of sight. What's the best way to have this fixed? One of those roadside stands that has a big sign out? Is this reliable?
Any help appreciated.

get it repaired soon
Rock chips are pretty common around my area in the East Bay region of San Francisco. My insurance (AAA) will pay for chip repair with no deductible and will replace the windshield for your comprehensive (not collision) deductible. If the chip has any cracks coming off of it, it will expand with time as you get water into the crack and the windshield goes through hot/cold cycles with the sun. This info comes from the guy who came to repair chips on 2 of my vehicles. On my 2003 coupe, I had a chip with spiderweb type cracks going out and was total size less than a dime. He did the repair and I ended up with a small mark about 2-3 mm diameter. On my wife's Acura, there was one about the the size of a pencil eraser. He repaired that to about 2 mm diameter. The main thing is all th cracks are gone so it won't expend. On my friend's Subaru, he had a quarter size chip out on the bottom of the passenger side and he left it alone since it was out of his view. About 2 months later there was a heat wave followed by a cold snap and now there is 3 foot long crack across the bottom of his windshield, so it's not repairable but needs to be replaced.
