A bigger question, it seems like the new G has lost every comparo i've seen. I have no doubts that it's a great car, especially for 35k. However, off the top of my head, I've cried as it's continually beaten by the 330 (winding road, Motor Trend), 328 (car and driver), and the IS and TL (R&T). Most cite the manual transmission or the 'refinement' of the vehicle. Are the bad guys' cars that much better?? Or are there really certain things infiniti could have developed further in the car?

I have long read the TL, IS and Bimmer forums and here are some snapshots:
- The TL owners are constantly complaining about ticks and rattles in the car, cheap leather, FWD, no LED tail lights and an engine that can't make 300 hp, even for the Type S.
- Bimmers, while TREMENDOUS cars and true performers, have their own issues, i still haven't seen a magazine that likes the iDrive. As a matter of fact, the episode of Motorweek that featured the 07 G35, said "we are thankful that the G's nav system doesn't remotely resemble bmw's idrive."
- the is350 is okay but people complain about the VDIM which is impossible to turn off, cheap materials on the inside that scratch easily and no room in the back seats.
Enjoy that ride! And welcome to the forum!
In most of those tests, the 330 is from 5-10 carlengths behind in the quarter mile, stops and handles less well, and has less interior room by the data they present. They appear to have a subjective preference for BMW based largely on steering feel, which is truely outstanding on sport suspension Bimmers. That aspect alone elevates Porsche above its competion. If the mags drive Infiniti to get better, GREAT- past criticism has resulted in perhaps the best functional/styled interior available today for the price and incrementally hotter looks, so the G37 is likely to be even better! On the street, the car speaks for itself!!
I pretty much agree with everyone's comments in this thread. I am truly tired of the often biased reviews published by the major car magazines. it seems that depending on "which way the wind blows" they come up with a variation of their last review or impression.
For example, the G35 has made it to C&D's 10 Best again for 2007 - I believe this is the 5th year in a row! In the 10 Best overview. their opening statement is, and I quote:
That was in January 2007. Now in the April 2007 issue, something happened?? Now suddenly the G35 is less refined than the Bimmer? Bottom line - I don't think anything has changed. It is just the BMW biased C&D editors doing what they do best - changing their opinions as the wind blows!!
The G35 is not the only vehicle to suffer such indignities. Take the Acura TL, for example. They have been berating this car since the day it was introduced as a redesigned 2004 model. The issue? It can't be considered a sports sedan because it is FWD. The other issue they complain about is torque steer. Having owned an '04 TL, all I can say is that this one awesome (and refined) vehicle. I think the problem is that these guys are drinking that 'special BMW Kool-Aid' again. Torque steer is a non-issue, especially in the AT due to the VSC. As for FWD, so is the Honda Accord and Acura TSX, but neither of these cars has been criticized for being FWD (admittedly the Accord is not a Sports Sedan, but the TSX is considered in the Sports Sedan category.) That brings me to another inconsistency.
Both the Honda Accord, and Acura TSX have been in (the Accord still is) nominated to C&D's 10 Best. But not the TL! Seems a little odd, doesn't it?
But anyway, I digress.
Bottom line - everyone should forget the reviews and enjoy your G35's. In my view it is the one of the best Sports Sedans on the market (and it blows the doors off the Bimmer - both in performance and technology!!).
Regards,

"Supple ride. Balanced, agile handling.” You probably associate those lyrics with the BMW 3-series. That’s understandable. You’ve been hearing them every year at this time since 1992. But here’s a different tune. The composers of the second-gen G35 were clearly influenced by the themes that have kept the BMW 3s at the top of the hit parade for so long, but they’ve given it subtle Asian phrasing. The finished piece is supple and agile but a shade more aggressive than the German opus."
