I've been trying to figure this out, and not sure if I have an issue.

There's a setting in the Settings-->Comfort and Convenience, that let's you adjust the delay after you shut off the car.

If I leave my headlights or parking lights on, and shut off the engine and get out, the headlights or parking lights never seem to shut off. I tried this first with the setting at 30sec, and it never shuts off. I then tried setting it at 0sec, and the headlights or parking lights still don't auto turn of even after shutting the car off. Tried the same by locking the doors, but to no avail.

Am I doing something wrong, or is there an issue with the car?

 

You do have your head light setting set in the auto position on the left stalk, don't you. They are not supposed to be turned on but in the auto position.

 

Ill grab this one even though I dont have a G35. I have this on my FX. I hate how the lights stay on, I got used to flipping it to off then back to auto to get the damn lights to stay off.

The setting you are describing controls turning off the headlights after they have come on due to darkness. Like if you drive in a dark tunnel the lights come on, you drive to the light, the car waits 0,15,30,45 secs etc before shutting them back off. Totally useless.

The delay setting applies to the headlight switch being in the "Auto" position only. The manual says you can keep the headlights on for up to 180 seconds after you push the ignition switch to OFF and open any door then close all the doors.

I guess I misinterpreted this feature, to the one where the headlights will automatically turn off for you if you forgot to switch it OFF (to keep the batteries from dying). The manual does say that feature is built in with a 5 minute delay. Seems kind of long to drain the battery for 5 minutes, hopefully the battery is not dead by then.

On a side note with the AUTO setting. Whenever I start the car, and just want to put the parking lights on, I have to switch it past the AUTO setting to get to parking lights on only. This quick maneuver turns on the HIDs momentarily (say I'm sitting in a dark garage) then shuts them off. This can't be good for the life of the HIDs. Any way around this?

 

I believe in AUTO mode, the time delay setting is the amount of time the headlight will shut off AFTER the door is closed. If you set it to "0", the headlights will go aff as soon as the door is closed.

I usually turn mine on manually because in AUTO setting, my headlights would go on when I start my car in my garage and shut off after I pull out.

 

Xenon bulbs are usually rated to 20,000 hrs.
That's 11 years at 5 hours per day.

Geesh. Set it to AUTO. Stop worrying. Enjoy life.

 

This is true, but their life can be greatly decreased if they are turned on for only very short periods of time.
Letting them turn on in the garage and then turn off when you pull out, every day, will definitely decrease the life of the bulbs.

 

I would be more interested in a turn on setting where the lights turn on when you unlock the car via the fob. I often times, park the car in dark corners of a parking lot and would love to see the car as I walk towards it.

 

terrycs is right. The timer function is definitely tied to the closing of the doors. If you leave your doors open after you shut off the car, the delay will be extended.

I prefer the setting that turns them off when you get out and shut the door. Its cool when you get out slam the door and the lights turn off at the same time
