SanDisk Extreme III 2GB CompactFlash Memory Card

Model: SDCFX3-2048

Atop a mountain peak or in a searing desert, this CompactFlash card will quickly capture, view, upload and transfer large image files under the most extreme conditions.

Thanks! Do you have any basic info on how to download mp3's from your computer/ipod to the flash card?

you need a flash card reader for your computer. it's the same as transfering songs to a USB stick or ipod basically.

It will work, but IMO overkill. How fast do you really need for transfering music every once in awhile? You are not going to be capturing or viewing anything w/ the CF in your car. Save youself a few $.

Once you have a flash card reader plugged into one of your computer USB ports, all you will need to do is drag and drop the MP3s you want to the flash card. It's very easy.

Thanks my home computer has several slots for memory type cards so I think I can just put the flash card into that.

FYI--

That card is great. And it's not that expensive -- certainly comparable to other 2GB CF cards.

Fry's is selling that card for $45. I had Bestbuy pricematch it since it was closer, and they gave me some flak since it's under their cost.

I am currently using SanDisk, Lexar, and Kingston cards in my car. They all work perfectly - never had a problem with these brands. So, unless you are using the card in a camera or some other device where transfer speed is critical, I suggest you purchase based on price. Right now the best price I have found is $29.99 for a 2G Kingston at my local InkStop (no rebate hassle either). I bought one a few weeks ago and intend on picking up at least a few more. So I say, why pay $45?

Question Car is not a flash friendly environment. Microdrive anyone?

One aspect of the SAN Disk Extreme III CF cards is they can withstand high temperatures. If you've ever left your car in the sun for a couple hours mid-summer, then you know how hot the dash gets... so that may be worth considering. Of course you can always try the cheaper alternative first as see how it performs hot/cold, etc.

Has anyone tried a Microdrive (mini hard drive) in Compact Flash format such as Seagate's ST64022C-RK in their car? I'm wondering if the car's virbrations may prove to much for these microdrives, and suffer poor performance, and finally disk crashes.

Haven't tried it, but with the 512 song limit, there's really no point in going over 2GB imo.

Microdrives are inherently less reliable due to mechanical components -- they fail in simple applications like cameras -they would be more likely to fail in a car compared to CF.
Stick with flash cards (depending on what you listen to 2 or 4 gb due to the 512 song limit)
