Out with the old, and in with the new

With the lease on my 2006 AT Coupe ending in June, I began actively shopping the 2K7 G35X a few weeks ago, and finally signed the lease papers last night. I expect to pick up my LP/Graphite G35X with prem., navi & tech. packages on Thursday afternoon/evening. My excitement is only tempered by my having to part with my coupe, which has been a fantastic car to drive these past 10 1/2 months. Call me crazy, but I've actually built up a type of emotional attachment to the car--please tell me others get that feeling!

Ahh...trading off the sportiness of a RWD coupe for the more practical AWD sedan was a very tough decision to make at first. After test driving the sedan, I was sold. My kids are excited, since it won't be as inconvenient for them to go for a ride with daddy. This will enable me to save some precious miles from my wife's Odyssey, which we own.

I haven't been the most active member on the forum, but I do visit almost every day, and every time I've asked a question or for an opinion, this community has responded intelligently and enthusiastically. Thanks everyone.

Congrats Noah! I am sure you'll be a little sad seeing your Coupe go, but I am sure you'll really enjoy your new X!

+1

Congrats. I know what it feels like. Having owned the coupe myself, it was quite hard to let it go (I had it for three and half years ). But with the gadgets, luxury, and sportiness of the new sedan that feeling was short lived.

I felt the same way when I traded in my Z. But if its possible, I think the X is actually more fun to drive.

Good, so I'm not the only one!

Since I'm swapping cars on Thursday, my dear wife said to put in regular fuel when we were at the gas station. I told her I just couldn't do it the car. It was out of a sense of loyalty and respect. In 10 1/2 months, I've only paid for gas and one oil change (the first one was free), so how could I be so cruel to the car? On the other hand, I had no problem driving around with the stability system off, just to burn a little rubber. The car has less than 4,000 miles on it, and plenty of tread to spare.

I know all of you understand that Thursday cannot come soon enough. Of course, I will post pictures as soon as possible.

Noah- congratulations on your new purchase! I understand how you must feel about parting with your sporty coupe. I felt the same exact way when I had to let my BMW 328is go...but being in the G35 sedan makes the pain go away - pretty damn fast if I must say so myself. Plus - the convenience of having 4 doors is great!!

So you signed a 1 year lease with the old coupe ??
How many miles were included in the lease ??

You say you used only 4k miles in a year -- that would make the dealer very happy -they can get a lot more $$ back on the re-sale

It was a 10K/year lease. The dealer is making my last lease payment, and when they get done buying the car from the bank, they will make a pretty good profit (would've been better without the impending release of the G37 according to the manager). The low mileage was what enabled me to get a good deal on leasing the sedan, since I had that rare situation where the car didn't depreciate as much as anticipated because of the mileage. It's also in mint condition, and was hand-washed by me every time--even in the dreadful New York winter (as soon as the temperature rose above 34 degrees, I was out there with rubber gloves, getting the crud off the car). Why did I care so much about the car even in a short term lease? Because I love the car. A better question (and one that I ask myself at least once every month--i.e., when making a payment) is why the heck am I leasing a new car if I'm putting no mileage on it? I should buy a used civic to get me to and from the train station, but I can't convince myself to live without a cool car. My main driving pleasure comes on Saturday and Sunday mornings, when I wake up at 6:00 to go to the gym, which opens at 7:00. I tool around by the water, and get on the car a bit, since the roads are deserted. When I'm parking my car at the train station, I say to myself that I am nowhere near having the most expensive "station car," since I'm parking near new BMWs, Mercedes, etc. Anyway, I should get more use out of the sedan, since as I said above, I can use it to move my wife and kids a bit more than I ever did with the coupe. As a matter of fact, I'm driving 500 miles round trip to PA this weekend, which is 12% of the mileage I put on in the last 10 1/2 months. The kids are willing to give up the Odyssey's DVD player for a trip in Daddy's new car.

One more day until I pick her up, and I'm pretty damn excited.

OK, when I drove the black coupe off the lot, I had an easy choice of music--Back in Black (car before that was the first non-black car I had ever owned). What do I play when driving away in a liquid platinum car? Suggestions please...

Thanks, Kenny. It turned out to be a tougher hunt than I thought it would be, and I'm glad it's finally over--although I guess it isn't until I take delivery of the car.

Your dealership is closer to home, so you may see me in there for an oil change at some point.
