Here's what I don't understand, the i-key is manufactured by Siemens VDO for Infiniti and is rated to operate at 315MHz. This is well below any one of the 4 bands of GSM, which are:

850 MHz (824.2 - 848.8 MHz Tx; 869.2 - 893.8 MHz Rx)
900 MHz (880-2 - 914.8 MHz Tx; 925.2 - 959.8 MHz Rx)
1800 MHz (1710.2 - 1784.8 MHz Tx; 1805.2 - 1879.8 MHz Rx)
1900 MHz (1850.2 - 1909.8 MHz Tx; 1930.2 - 1989.8 MHz Rx)

What kind of idiot engineer does it take to have interference from frequencies so far beyond the operating range of the product? It should be relatively simple for them to filter out frequencies outside of the key's operating band.

I'm not sure about phones like this but with cordless phones, wireless internet, etc. anything in the same "multiplier" can affect each other. I'm not sure if that is a good term but basically a 2.4 ghz phone can be affected by something that is 4.8 ghz but not something 5.6 ghz. Make sense? It could well be something like that.

Frequency harmonics and EMF?

it's probably not a compatible signal that ruins the ikey. it's probably the power of the outgoing signal that the cell phone transmits that does.

a cell phone has to transceive a much stronger signal than the ikey does.

actually, it's only the INCOMING calls/emails that can erase it, apparently outgoing doesn't. Tested that theory last night. So it's the initial receipt of a call that somehow generates a signal that wipes the fob's memory/transmitter.

I'd bet 2cents that its GSM as well. Its notorious for causing audible interference with radios/landlines etc.

Anyone willing to experiment? :P

But again, its just a guess based on what I know about these technologies ....

This is absolutely not the case. MB and BMW have had their keyless entry systems in place for a few years now and have not had any issues of cellphone signals wiping the keycodes.

AFAIK this issue is unique to Nissan/Infiniti.

I think this problem is unique to the 07G and the 07 Altima exclusively. I've never heard of a first gen G, M, or FX failing like this.
