I did not prep the metal as I planned as I believe it would look better with the casting line completely removed. However to do that I'd need to remove all of the casting pits and that's a lot of work for something this little.
Any thoughts on the caliper being painted two colors. Black on top with a silver "infiniti" decal and silver on the bottom with a black Mt Fuji logo from the casting line towards the hub? Might look nice. ??
So you painted them still attached, and masked everything off? Is the paint hard to handle (I'm assuming it's a spray)? Guess you used sheets for the rest of the suspension / wheel bay, or do you just have really good aim?
Where'd you get the paint?

Whatever you do, do not paint the stock calipers to any flashy color. I've seem them [red], and looks hilarious. Our calipers are too puny for flashyness. Black would be your best bet.

The can of paint was Dupli Color from O’reilly Auto Parts. It’s a spray paint for Brake Caliper w/ ceramic. I used newspaper around the rest of it. I have a painted garage floor and would not have risked getting spray all over the floor. Since the parts are so small there is not much paint floating around. You’ll just spray in short sweeping bursts and you’ll do several small coats with only ten minute in between. I also used a high intensity lamp to throw some light on the caliper which dried the paint very quickly. Once I put on the decals, actually only about 30 minutes after the final color coat, I sprayed 2 or 3 coats of high temp clear over the decals, which locks them into the paint and prevents peeling.
I cannot attest to what the decal are made off, but they are sold and advertised for brake caliper. If there are going to melt they will melt right away so I should know in a few days. Calipers only get so hot. Get hot and cooling then get hot again is not going to be the problem, if they melt they should do it on day #1 I’d think. I'll keep my fingers crossed and keep you posted.
I decided to do the other side. Took 1.5 hours from lifting on jack, to masking, spraying, applying the decals and shooting clear. The heat lamp is the way to go. What do you think? Here are some finished photos:

Painting was very simple. Whether you use decals or not I think painting will keep the calipers cleaner. I was beginning to get a lot of brake dust build up on the surface and it did not wash off. It almost etched the original surface. I think they will wash off fairly easily now.
