Jump starting?

Can anyone tell me if it's OK to jump start another car with my G? I've heard it can mess up the computer, but don't know if this is just a myth.
Thanks.

Should be fine -- turn off all accessories in your G (esp the A/C, sound system, HIDs etc etc)

A jump is only as "traumatic" as a real start to your car - should be fine.

I've done it with no issues.

Obviously make sure that your car is running before attempting a jump start.

Also, never connect batteries directly together. Always ground the correct side.

Really? The instructions of the cable say to connect the positive to the positive, and negative to the negative. I didn't have any problems when I helped jump-start my boss's car several months ago.

This is key.. the car that is being jumped should have the negative cable connected to the frame or a proper ground.. not directly to the battery

There is a severe explosion hazard if you connect pos-pos and neg-neg. If the battery doesn't explode, it will swell.

I don't touch the cables connected to my car battery. I'm adding the jumper cables to the terminals, and the other ends of the cables are connected to the stalled car's terminals. So that means my battery is properly grounded.

I received one of those "EZ Jump Start" kits as a gift a few months back, where you just plug into the cigarette/power outlet for each car instead of having to go under the hood. Some silly "Sharper Image" item. Seems pretty idiot-proof, but I haven't had to use it yet... anyone have experience with one of these things? as in, is there some reason I should NOT use it if the need were to arise?

I saw my friend using one. Unfortunately, it was never charged, so she had to charge it first, which defeats the purpose of helping out in an "emergency". I didn't stay long enough to find out what happened.

^no no... not one you charge - it's exactly like jumper cables, so two plugs - one for the good car and one for the one being jumped, so you still have two cars for it, you just never have to open the hood or connect to the battery directly
