Some information and mis-information..

To celebrate fathers day.. I did my first oil change on the 07 G35 S. After removing the 15 or so bolts that hold the plastic shield that covers the pan, all was in view and easily accessed. Some of the bolts are different so you need to remember where they came from.
I have the service manuals that I downloaded off the web. They show an oil cooler which is located on the oil filter mount.. No so.. it does not have an oil cooler. There is a small cooler mounted low and in front of the radiator. This is for the power steering unit. So it looks like the manual is wrong and we don't have an oil cooler.
I used Mobil-1 synthetic which is a good idea for those who run their cars hard... I bet oil temps can get quite high in this engine.. synth is a good way to go IMHO.
I bought a couple of OEM nissan oil filters from the dealer..
These were about $6 a piece.. pricey but cheap.. made in China. My next one will be a wix or mobile-one filter.
I was kind of disappointed to see a sheet metal oil pan.. but upon close inspection, the pan itself is very small and just a bottom cover. Most of the pan is thick heavy aluminum which extends below the block. This is important because this type of setup makes the engine more rigid and enhances the strength rather than being made of all sheet metal which flexes.
Very easy to do a oil change with just a set of ramps.

Just a comment: I bought a couple of OE filters from my dealer yesterday. They are labeled Nissan, and are also clearly labeled Made in Japan. ?

Mobil of course doesn't manufacture filters, so a Mobil-1 filter could be made by anyone, and most likely is private labeled by Champion Labs.

Well.. mine are made in China.. I used a coupon.. maybe that's why
I was incorrect... I meant to say K&N oil filter.. not Mobil 1

One other thing.. whoever came up with 5 and 1/8 quarts for an oil change should be shot.. does that equate to something in metric thats a whole container..

5L = 5.283441 quarts, so at least we don't have to open a 6th container.

Totally agree .... even my older Nissans required either a little more than 4 Qts or a little more than 5 Qts. Never a whole qt - always fractional.

I think its the metric bug

Holy crap ///// just noticed .... gotta remove 15+ bolts to access the pan ??
I thought I read somewhere here that there is a trap door to get access to the oil pan ... maybe that was only for an X ?

btw, what is the build date on ur car ? I'll get under mine real soon and see if there are any differences in the 6MT. I sure hope there is a trap door - its a pain to drop the entire underbody cover for a simple OC.

My build date is Dec 06.. no trap door on mine.. I wanted to look around and make sure there were no leaks from anywhere.. so I would have removed it anyways... its not a big deal.. just adds a few more minutes to the job

5 1/8 = 5.12500 qt. So in the US the sixth bottle of oil needs to be opened unless you buy some oil that is sold in 1L bottles. I know of only one brand that is sold in 1L bottles and that is Motul (300 V is sold in 2L cans). I'm sure there are other brands sold in 1L bottles, and just don't know which.
