Noise When Engaging Clutch? Anyone Have This?

In the last couple of days I've heard like a metal spring sound coming from the bottom of the car when I engage the clutch sometimes. It engages fine and everything but that noise sometimes. Has anyone else heard this sound?

Only sound I notice is when I let go of the clutch, a slight dragging noise is present. I attribute it to the transmission shafts just spinning around in the case. It also makes a rattleing noise when its in neutral and I shut the car off with the clutch out.

No spring noises though, you may have a pedal pivot that needs greasing.

Sounds like the infamous "squeaking" clutch as reported by Edmunds.
Also someone here had the same squeak.

Mine hasn't done it (so far ! - touch wood)

Try lubing the clutch pedal

Angry I have the same strange sound!

I have a very similar rattling sound coming from underneath my engine compartment. I've read that allot of other manual drivers have the same noise experiences. My G has 42,000 miles and is still under factory warranty. So I decided to take it to the dealership. The Mech-a-necks @ my infinity dealership told me that sound was normal. He explained to me that all 6 speeds have a noisy trannys. When he sat in my ride an engaged my clutch, the rattling sound went a way. He told me it wasn't anything to worry about and if the sound got any louder to just bring it back in. If I were you I'd bring it to your dealer an have them look at it. Post your results!! I'm over my rattling sound. If I keep hearing it I'm gonna have them just change out my whole tranny!

Are you guys talking about the flywheel noise? That is the only "normal" sound you should have that I can think of. The flywheel in these cars is loud if you ask me but it isn't some weird noise or anything.

I was thinking the same thing. Probably the flywheel chatter.

No it's not the flywheel. I thought the same thing. A buddy and I were during some research on common causes of theses types of rattling and chattering sounds that often occur in G's and think it might be my throw out bearing. Anyone ever had anything smiliar?

Mine started making that springy squeak noise. I took it to the dealer about 3 weeks ago and they said dirty pedal assembly--cleaned and lubed. Now the noise is back, and it does sound like it comes from under the car as well....I have an appointment on Tuesday to take it in. Ramo, did your issue ever get resolved?

First off... if the clutch is depressed the clutch is DIS-engaged. Once you let off the clutch pedal, the clutch is engaged.

What you're hearing when the clutch is engaged is most likely the throw-out bearing. Both my `03 Zed and my Exedy twin-disk on my previous Evo VIII sounded like this. I tried several clutch/flywheel combos on my Zed, and all had this sound in varying degrees depending on weight of the assembly, etc.

Even my `07 makes the same noise... One thing that concerns me, is that when I went out and researched the noise many people commented that it was due to 'loose' installation. Yet I personally have installed four clutches into FM platform cars, and NEVER have seen how you could 'loosely' install a throwout bearing. All in all, IMHO I would not let the sound bother you and write it off as a nature of the beast. That being said, I would like to listen to the 6sp in the new G37, as it is supposed to have the revised design.
