thanks for posting this up. I was just searching for this. Wasn't sure anyone with a G would be installing a tow hitch but makes sense for a bike rack. I want a tow hitch to tow my motorcycle to the track. I installed one on my old integra in 10 minutes. This one looks a little more involved but totally doable. your photos make me much more comfortable doing it.
Good work!

[edit: I've got a coupe though so I'll check with etrailer to make sure the install is the same.]

Just ordered mine last week (still haven't received yet). Thanks for the great right up. I've got some tools that may help the install go better, and I'll be using a dremel for sure to cut out the bumper section.

Fo those fellow "dremel-ers" I find the sanding bit (that's right, the round sanding bits) to work great on plastic. Just beware of the hot melted plastic flying off as it is like liquid death if you get in on your skin. HOT!

I'll post up pics when I'm done. Going with the Yakima DoubleDown 4 (holds 4 bikes).

My set-up is post #33, 34 & 35.

I use the Saris Thelma rack. it is sweet! very easy to use...durable...and looks great with the Liquid Platinum!

I stripped one of the threads when torqing a bolt in crooked. Should the bike rack be ok or should i retap the thread? Thinking i need to remove the bumper to fix this. Wish i saw your guide.... Ugggghhh

^ Do it right. You don't want to be cruising down the highway and your rack/bike goes flying...and I wouldn't want to be behind you if it happens.

Hey your right...but why would you want to be behind me if that happens? lol

So I looked at the service manual, I think the best thing for me to do is remove the bumper to do this. Should I try tapping it myself or just take it into a shop? The hitch is installed just the stupid thread stripped. Glancing at the book the tailights have to come off for the bumper removal???

If you have the ability to do it yourself then why wouldn't you? If you aren't comfortable then let a pro handle it.
BTW - fixed my previous post
Cheers

Go to ORiellys and get a Helicoil kit.. it's pricey at about $30, but you get a bunch of coils for that, and then you can use the original size screw. They are so strong the bolt will snap before it strips again!

Torque wrenches are your friend

kit looks like this (just pick right bolt size)

Ok heli coil seemed like a good idea, however after drilling and then tapping the thread hole started spinning. I am trying to repair tonight with JB Weld, but if that doesnt work i might need to get a new bumper support. I cant imagine these being too bad at the yards right?
