Quicker Paddle Shifting

The AT shifting with the paddle shifters (or the console shifter for that matter) is rather slow. Would be nice if there was an aftermarket fix.

Would be nice, I just anticipate when I'm gonna shift and press 1/2 a second ahead of time lol...

Although I dont have the paddles, the shift lever itself seems to react much slower than my 2005 Subaru LGT did. Maybe the ECU needs to learn me more??

IMHO the LGT has one of the best manumatics available, but it lacks the cool rev-matching feature of the G35's tranny.

I think they are the same JATCO tranny Probably different ECU that creates the differences though.

I'm mixed on this. I'm assuming that the paddle shifters and the shifter lever have the same response time.

What I've noticed is that sometimes, my car doesn't shift for a couple of seconds sometimes. Most of the time, it shifts rather quickly but just sometimes, it tends to hold the gear for a very long time. (My car does this in 1st gear) It's usually when I "feel" that I missed the usual shifting place. Also, I think there's a delay between shifts too. You can't shift upto 5th gear in like 3 seconds. You have to shift upto 2nd gear, go upto about 2.5~3k RPM and shift, go 2.5~3k again and shift and so on and so forth. When I'm going about 35 miles per hour or driving around the parking lot, it's usually stuck on 3rd gear and it won't let me shift up.

Just get a 6MT and shift at your own pace in real time.

agreed haha, I tried waiting for months for the right combination of options to get the 6MT but no luck I gave in and got the manualamatic. . .
and at first I wasn't feelin it coming from a manual, but after a while of playing with it, I've gotten pretty good with it, honestly feel that if I were to take it to a track and compare with MT the difference would be very small. You just have to learn to adjust, and yes shift a bit sooner at certain times.
Just as if your going to pass on the freeway, downshift a split second sooner that with a manual and you dont miss a beat, or same with down shifting before a nice curve. One cool thing I had no idea the tranny couldd do is to downshift when in the normal drive setting. . .I thought this was only possible under manual mode. . .. but maybe it was just me that didnt realize this soon enough

Yes, the tranny will let you downshift through all gears very quickly, but forces waits in upshifts. This has never bothered me, as sometimes I need to drop a couple of gears (during "spirited driving" ) for a corner, don't have a need to upshift more than a gear at a time.

Haven't experienced any delays in downshifts though, mine always shifts as soon as I hit the paddle...? And it doesn't wait on single upshifts either, so maybe I'm just not experiencing the same problem. EDIT>>>> Just tested this with the loaner, and there is indeed a slight (<1 sec) delay in single upshifts. Guess I'm just used to it, I'm assuming my Sport does this too.

Same here. The only thing I have against the whole system is that I can't take off in 2nd gear or any other gear. The first gear is quite scary to me since the car just rockets forward. Other than that, I'm on the same boat. I don't need to shift up two gears that rapidly. I just take my time... and downshifts definitely never have any delays.

FYI, the 2008 LGT has rev-matching.

Normally... I would only consider the MT, but after driving this car a few time with the MT, I was totally disappointed with the crude feeling tranny. It is just feels out of place with the rest of the refined package.
The auto works well and matches up better with the car under most conditions.. but as with most autos.. it lacks the direct feel and control. It also hangs onto shifts and is slow to respond under certain conditions... but for everyday use... its the better choice for this car... IMO.

What? The G35 6MT I test drive felt great. I loved it and hope to purchase one some day. Just my opinion, I know everybody has a different view point, but I felt the need to stand up for a great car with a nice manual tranny. Not the best, I'm sure, but plenty good for me to want one.

I find the hard and faster I am driving the quicker the response is from the paddle shifters. If I am going slow and shifting low in the RPM's, under 3K, then it is slow and some delay, but driving hard it feels very quick and responsive. Sometimes I think it is almost as quick as a MT, then again it has been a loooong time since I have driven a MT so my memory could be playing tricks on me.
