Trunk lid

I was washing my car over the weekend only to find there's scratch marks and rust at the bottom of the end of trunk lid where it meets the bumper on the inside. From what I can tell, it is caused when the trunk is closed probably from having to push it down hard so it locks. I'm just curious if it's just my car or have others experienced this and do you think the dealer be willing to fix and repaint the scratched areas. Sorry I don't have a picture to post will try to get one up. This has been bothering me because I feel like I've been damaging my car all this time without even realizing it.

That's interesting because my lid closes easily. I just push it down with light pressure and it latches.

A time or two I have closed it very easily and it didn't latch, especially when I first got the car and didn't have a feel for the correct pressure required to close it.

But since then it is very easy.

I would definitely take it up with the dealer and push them for repairs.

After all...the car is an '07. If they balk you may pull out the "I'm calling Nissan corporate" card

As freaked-out as they are about surveys and customer satisfaction they will want you happy. And you have a legitimate complaint.

Good luck...

I too noticed that it was hard to close the trunk when I first got the car. I ended up adjusting the stops on the bottom edge of the trunk lid, this made a big difference. You have to be careful that you don't go too far as you may end up with rattles. As for the scratches, I don't know what is causing those, I haven't seen them on my car.

use the handle inside the trunk to throw it down liek a yo-yo. closes properly every time and plus you don't get finger prints all over your trunk!

I had this problem after being rear ended. The body shop really screwed up the bumper and trunk alignment. I had to slam it with allmy force to close it, and the bumper was getting scraped up by the trunk lid scraping it.

They finally got the bumper and trunk aligned properly, and now it closes fine. I almost always use the inside handle now.

Shane I noticed it was easier to close the trunk on cars with spoilers because of the extra weight of the spoiler. When we were on the east coast run I compared mine to yours and yours was much easier to close because of the added weight of the spoiler on your car.

I feel that most people don't know/see the handle on the inside. I feel like it does take a little more power to use the handle since you kinda have to snap your wrist to shut it.

Smile Newsflash!! The handle in the trunk is NOT for closing the trunk!!

It's an emergency release. If you ever find yourself trapped in the trunk with the door closed, you pull on the handle to OPEN the trunk from inside. It's not for closing the trunk.

That's why the handle has an icon of the trunk OPEN.

I don't know about you but I'm not planning to fall into the trunk any time soon. I can barely fit golf clubs back there. Me -- no way.

There is the emergency release AND a handle to close the trunk near the edge of the door.
