I had on '05 TSX before I got my G. Here's the things I like about the TSX nav over the G nav

1) Use of all the nav functions while driving

What I like about the G nav over the Acura nav

1) Voice Recognition seems to be more accurate than the Acura
2) Displays more names of the streets on the map view than the Acura. The Acura had the streets on the map view, but not as many of those streets had the names 'drawn' on them.
3) The nav boots up faster than the Acura (I have the hard drive based nav on my G), So it's faster in calculating routes as well
4) More options..IE: Birdview, etc...
5) Seems to have more map data than the Acura. My wife still has her Acura MDX with nav...her nav in the MDX didn't have her work address in the database! It's been there for 20 years! Not only did the G35 nav have the address, but it also had the name of the business and the phone number too....so better POI too?
6) I didn't like the fact that, on the Acura TSX, the majority of the controls for the A/C and Heat were tied to the screen....having to switch to the screen to change fan speed, etc... kind of a pain. The G has all "hard" controls for the Heat and A/C, much more user friendly
7) The information screen on the G35 seems to be more useful than the TSX. A lot more information, not to mention 1000% nicer graphics and layout too.

What I don't like about the G Nav

1) I live in a town where I guess they don't have all the streets 'verified', it's irritating when the voice comes in to tell me that I'm not in a 'verified' area. It does this too much (I have voice guidence turned off...haven't found an option to turn off the warning)
2) Learning curve is a bit steeper with all the options
3) Not all functions available while moving

At least for me and my needs, I prefer the G35 nav over the nav I had in my TSX.

I updated my Garmin C550's maps before going to the beach house. The Garmin saves me over an hours travel time in comparison to the Infinities Nav. That's a considerable amount of time. Both systems were set for fastest times and avoidances were indentically set. I like many of the features of the in car Nav, but for its' basic function it just isn't as proficient as the Garmin, Magellan or Lowrance portable units. I didn't have a Tom Tom portable to test. All three of the others provided the same routes to the beach house. I've used Toyota, Acura and Infiniti/Nissan Nav units extensively and every one of them falls short of it's basic purpose, Navigating. The G's Nav will get you to your destinationa and as others have mentioned, I find it much easier to use than the other manufacturers and it provides better navigation than the Acura and Toyota. It's POI database is fairly extensive.

The XM Traffic Info made the navi worth it in its own right (traffic in DC is a royal nightmare).

While it has trouble finding viable alternative routes, its nice to know how bad traffic is around the area.

My biggest complaint is that the messages don't scroll so I can't really read much of the info. I find myself using the actual map instead to find out exactly how long delays are.

I found the traffic information great at first, but pretty much useless in the DC area as there is never a better route. When I'm on 66 and there is an accident, I've found it better just to stay on 66. It is nice to have the additional info, but I find it's just not worth the extra money to subscribe to it once the free trial is done. Hopefully they will continue to improve this service. It was extremely helpfull while I was in Miami and did successfully detour me to my destination. DC is just a different beast

I'm happy with the navi unit. Never owned one before, so I don't have anything to compare it to. So far, its been right on target for me. Being out here in Hawaii, I am very pleasantly surprised at the capability of this puppy to find routes and destinations. So no complaints here.

I'm coming from TL Navi and considerng buying a 07 G35 and I see some differecnes, the TL screen is big and clear, the G35 is a bit smaller I am guessing 6 inch vs. TL 7 inch. The G35 seems to not be as sharp, but it does give you various views of your map and directions that the TL does nto give you as much. The HD based G35 seems snappy and quick. I think the TL is maybe a tad more user friendly, and the vocie in the G35 seems a little robotic sounding at times. The TL kills music voluem while the G35 lowers it. All in all the G35 Navi seems impressive, woudl have liek a slightly larger screen on par with TL and maybe a little crisper.

I am also a past acura owner, had a 03 MDX with Navi for 4 years and got used to the great features of acura. I had voice recognition, which was great, but the problem is in south florida, crap is changing everyday, and within a year, the cd is outdated.
I am curious with the 07 G35, and its harddrive, if we will get a update at 08 for free, or if we will have to pay for it. Acura wanted 250 each time they updated the disc, and i dindt get it for the MDX because my old house was actually in it, but my new house is NEW, and my entire development is not in the Gs system, even though its actually over a year old. Thats my 1st complaint, and hopefully it will be resolved, 2nd ofcourse is speed lockout, and 3rd would be involved with teh navi traffic. I kept XM for the 3 free months and had lots of trouble with it. It wasnt updated fast enough for me, and it also had speed lockout where u cant get past the 1st 5 traffic problems. Thats a major problem becuase it lists prob on both sides of the road, and during rush hour traffic, 5 problesm isnt enough.
Other then the few little problems, it was deff a must have for tech freaks because of the other features like cr ripping and Cf reader. Ofcourse there a glitches with them aswell, which are well talked about throughtout this forum, but if the system was worth the extra money, I THINK IT IS.

It will be a paid upgrade as they usually are. Zenrin has not stated how updates will be delivered yet. As cheap as flash storage is now maybe update will be shipped out in compact flash. Zenrin also stated that next update will be out around November.

A download you place on your own compact flash would probably be more practical though.
