I've been told that it helps with dampening noise from the trunk. Just bought a Lexus ES350 for the wife and the rear seats do not fold down as well, but has a pass-through. I do plan on buying a g37 and am glad to see that the coupe folds down...to make up for the lack of trunk space. Anyhow, not much of an issue to me as I can't remember the last time I needed to fold down the rear seats.

Besides, if you need to haul around lots of stuff, borrow a buddy's truck.

 

I discovered the solution around the time my wife complained my 350Z had no room to carry things. Buy an FX for your wife...
