Strange sound in display screen

Alright!! I finally got my brand new 07 Blue Slate G35

I got few questions as a new owner please. First when I tried to start the car, I did the usual mistake of pressing the start button without stepping on the breaks, and once I noticed...I steped on the breaks, pressed the start button and "TICK!!!!" the display kindaa switched OFF and ON again in a blink with a stange sound that freaked me out!! is that normal, or what?

Another things please, I have the low air sign/light ON, though I went to some place to check them out, and they said that the pressure was 36 and its suppose to be 33 so they changed it...well the light is still ON! any comments please?

One last question please. Most poeple say that you need to step on it with the new car to be faster or better, performance wise..is this true?

Thanks all

I'm not 100% sure, but typically the "ticking" noise you hear (if from the steering column) is your steering wheel locking into place. Mine does it all the time when I turn the car into the "OFF" position. Your screen probably went from on to off to on again because when you hit the starter button once without pressing the brake, it puts the car into ACC mode (accessory) meaning all of your accessories work, when you hit the brake to try to start the car, the battery is trying to start the car as opposed to power your electronics (this goes with any car), so while the battery is trying to turn the engine, your electronics won't work but once the car is on, everything will be fine. Can you describe the weird noise your car made?

Can't comment on your low pressure light.

As for break-in period, everyone has a different theory. Some say keep it below 4000 RPM's for the first couple thousand miles others say to let it hit the entire range of the RPM band. I did a little of both, keeping it below 4000 RPM for about the first 1000 miles then occassionally flooring it for the next 1000 but I mostly kept it under 4000 RPM.

Congrats on the car btw.

I think that ticking noise that you hear coming from the center stack is actually the hard drive starting up. Just my guess.

Your speakers popped when you started your car after being in the ACC mode. No biggie. I don't know that I would make a habit of it, but I've done it a couple of times, and so far my car has been fine. Don't know what to say about the tire pressure issue.

As for the "drive it like you stole it" theory while the car is still new...well, I -personally- would err on the side of safety and be a little more gentle with the car for the first couple of thousand miles. If driving it hard while it's in the break-in period buys you a little more speed...fine. You just have to ask yourself if a fraction more speed later is worth the possibililty of truly screwing something up while your car is brand new.

I dunno, I just drive my car and enjoy it. I used to autox Miatas, and wanted a replacement car that had more creature comforts than the Miata had, but retained the driveability and reliability that I enjoyed with the Miata. So far, I've been more than pleased. I didn't buy the car to drag race or impress anyone with its top speed. I bought it for ME to enjoy. Mission accomplished.

--edit--
I forgot to congratulate you on your new car. You picked a GREAT color! I may be just a little partial to Blue Slate though...

Actually it sounds like you turned off a TV by pulling the plug.

I dont think its coming from the speakers, and its more likley coming from switching the screen ON when (ACC) and OFF-ON again when (Start). MY friend has the same car, we tried doing the same thing but there was no "Tick" sound. I will have to ask the Infiniti Agent when I take the car to the first service but I just wanted to ask if anyone has he same issue.

About driving the new car, I also knew that I can drive the car normally but with low RPM. Poeple here drive their new cars with a max speed of 80km speed for the first 1000km.

Thanks guys, glad to be a G owner just like you
