g35 sedan vs g37

just theoretically thinking .. the sedan comes stock with 306 ponies and the g37 is at 330 ( only 24 more ) but the g37 weighs 250 pounds more than the sedan and 450 pounds more if the g37 was an all wheel drive. at this rate im thinking the sedan SHOULD be able to keep up with that g37, yet wouldnt be suprised if it was a little faster ?

also if a stillen hi-flow dual intake and stillen dual exhaust was added to the sedan im sure it would give a nice little increment of ponies on top of the 306. would anyone know the exact amount for both of those together or maybe roughly ? after thosee im guessing the sedan should be a couple cars ahead of the g37?

please correct me if im wrong or let me know if i know absolutely nothing of what im talking about. opinions and comments ? thanks

Mag tests have shown the G35 and G37 to be virtually neck and neck - both auto and 6 speed manual versions. I think the cars are too close in acceleration to really declare a true winner. Perhaps at super high speeds like 120 mph+, the G37 may start pulling due to it being lower and having better breathing at the high end thanks to VVEL?

WRT high flow intake and exhaust, I doubt if either would give you a "nice little increment of ponies". More like a little increment if any addt'l ponies.

Check out the 1/4 mile time this 07 G35x pulled on dragtimes:

It's VERY comparable to the times posted for G37s:

According to Edmunds.com's specs, the coupe only weighs about 140 pounds more (3668 vs. 3532 - both sport trim), and there's no AWD option for the G37 so you can forget about that. The power to weight ratio of the sedan is 11.5 lbs per hp vs the coupe's 11.1 lbs per hp, so yeah the sedan should be a little slower (ignoring any difference in gearing).

Stealin' intake and exhaust is probably good for 5 or 10 peak HP, I doubt it would put a sedan ahead of a coupe.

If you're trying to convince yourself it's ok to buy the sedan because you can make it faster than a stock coupe, you can... but you might as well spend the same money on upgrading the coupe and be that much faster.

Too many "what if I did this ..." cause in the end, it comes down to how much money do you want to spend to make you car go faster.

IMO, stick with the fundamentals ... body styling or the number of doors do you want.

Car and Driver road test results:

2008 G37 6mt, 0-60 mph in 5.3 seconds, quarter mile in 13.9 seconds.
2007 G35 sedan 6mt 0-60 mph in 5.2 seconds, quarter mile in 13.9 seconds.

Consumer Report road test result:
2007 G35 sedan 5AT 0-60 mph in 5.4 seconds, quarter mile in 14.0 seconds.

I thought G37 would be faster thanks to 24 hp increase but that's not the case.

All - A buddy of mine in our club are going to Capital Raceway on 10/12 to settle the debate between which car is faster, etc. He be running the G37S w/dual Fujita's, whereas mine of course is the G35S w/dual Fujita's. There will be a video of course to verify. Should be fun. Althought, I suppose once we're done people will start to say, well, it really depends ont he driver, and response time and blah, blah, we'll just see . . . . until we post again!

Not sure if he has AT/MT. To me it doesn't matter... Hopefully he'll have the video up by the weekend.

My butt dyno agrees with these #s, down low there is no question that the 3.5 is faster but top end the 3.7 takes the cake. Personally, I'm a torque ***** and glad I went ahead and got the sedan. I'm just wondering how the coupe weighs more than the sedan...??? C'mon Nissan... When it comes down to it I could really care less which is faster. They are so darn close its really going to come out to who is a better driver. Either way they are both amazing cars to drive, I just wish my sedan sounded like the coupe from the factory! I know i'm not with the masses, but I guess thats why there is an aftermarket.

Cheers, looking forward to seeing the vids...

The dealer invited me to test drive a G37S while I was getting my oil changed. Acceleration felt similar, I was most impressed with how much more responsive it was in relation to the steering. Leaps and bounds better at low speeds compared to the sedan.
